If Obama and the liberals had had their way last year, where would Iraq be today ?

Remember last year about this time, when GWB wanted a surge of troops to stop the tide of terrorism in Iraq. Obama, liberals, and left-wing groups wanted just the opposite. Leftists wanted U.S. troops pulled out ASAP.

Since the surge of troops, not only did the tide of terrorism stop, but the violence in Iraq had decreased dramatically, and things are getting better there.

Lets suppose Obama and left-wingers had had their way last year, and instead the U.S. pulled most or all of it's troops out of Iraq.
What do you think Iraq would be like now if the leftists had their way last year ?

I have a feeling Obama couldn't have even flown to Iraq last week if he had had his way last year........

I don't know, I think that's a pretty tough question. Although the surge has certainly helped, and not to demean the soldiers' efforts, I think that there were alot of other factors that have also started moving towards the better that have contributed. In order to guess what the situation might be like today, you would have to take into account far too many variables, I think, to come to any sort of an accurate vision.

Ah the surge. In Anbar, the surge means all Shiites have either been massacred or run away. The US has military offices in houses where the Shias used to live. They are paying the Sunni "insurgents" to keep away "al Qaeda", which as soon as the Sunnis receive their moolah, miraculously disappear. Yes, the surge is working. The genocide is almost completed.

It would have been under Saddam, where it belonged. The US shouldn't have gotten into the dirty business of trying to build a Jeffersonian republic in the middle east.

There is less violence because we paid certain groups not to kill us, then used the surge to score political points. Now instead of talking about getting us out, stupid Americans only talk about reducing troops to before the increase.

That doesn't answer what this thread's about though. What do you think would have happened if Obama and the liberals had their way last year, and pulled the troops out ? What would have happened to the Iraqis ?
