    Varda, I assumed I would need to enter some kind of binary script code to do this. It's a mystery to me. I believe all the answers are out there.

    NobleSilver: In the DOS days, such a copy would be easy if you had an external storage device or a computer to computer cable and software like LapLink.

    With the way Windows is designed, you need the installation CD to reinstall software on the new computer. A mere copy of files will not do the job.

    If both the old & new computers use the same operating system, Drive Image might allow you to copy your entire OS partition to the new system. This is tricky due to different device drivers & a different motherboard, but I have done it a few times when I upgraded to new hardware using the same operating system.

    If I get a Vista system, I intend to run XP & Vista in a Multi-OS system. I will try to copy my XP partitions to the new system via Drive Image. I hope ther is never a good reason to switch to Vista, but I suspect that XP might not take full advantage of software written for multi-core Chips.
