I was thinking of the Olympics and the effect it could have on the USA. How do you think we'll do? Does it matter?

    1) How do you think the USA getting creamed in the Olympics (most likely by China) would affect our national psyche?

    - Our economy is seriously tanking (didn't Billy T pick August for the opening of the final round?).
    - We're throwing away trillions fighting two losing wars.
    - The housing bubble popped and crime sprees are tearing up major cities.

Our economy runs just as much on optimism as it does on anything else - if we get our arses handed to us at the Olympics - could it push the nation over the edge?

Not only this but our world standing is already at an all time low. A big loss for the USA and win for China could bring our image even lower than it is.

    2) Suppose we win and win big. Could this be the boost of confidence-reaffirmation we need?

    3) Olympics? Blah... who cares, Americans don't watch the Olympics.

I only hope that the athletes that go there don't suffer to many lung or breathing problems with all of the pollution that is in the air. I really feel that the athletes are not going to fair well trying to breathe in that polluted shit when they are there. If I were the athletes I'd stay at home for this Olympics for it isn't going to be that great there if one cannot breathe properly and could face medical problems as well. If they do go I always want the best to win , without cheating of course, and watch them struggle to win their sport. The problem of course will always be the cheating by any country.

okay but your not exactly going to olympics now are you?

with all the drugs American atheletes take, i doubt a little change in atmosphere is going to affect their performance. Whats so bad with Beijing atmosphere you been there before?

I was going to go with a Chinese friend of mine who knows someone who would put us up for the two weeks. I just didn't like paying 1500.00 per event ticket for each event, that would add up to 20 or 30 thousand dollars for all of the events I wanted to watch. I decided not to go because of the over priced tickets but would have liked to have gone.

My friends cousin lives there and he tells us that it is suffocating there at times. He cannot go out sometimes because of all of the contaminated air there.
