Obviously it is a statement made by persons who are not properly familiar with the benefits of internet access on the world at large

Spock if you had dropped the crime bit from that line i would 100% agree with you

But as light said it ignores the other uses to put the internet to

Its no different from if you had said:

"A childrens playground is a hothouse for pediphiles?"

well yes they would like to stawk those area's because they have easy access to there targets so you take steps to minimise the risk but the main use for a kid playground is still for kids to play

I thought the main use for the internet was sex (i.e. porn)?

Yes, definitely, and the government isn't doing enough to crack down on those sites, ban them, and apprehend the people responsible and punish them.

I wouldn't say so, depending on what exactly you mean. If you mean that the internet has child porn on it, then I'd agree. A hothouse? No. It's probably pretty hard to get it off the 'net, seeing as any open sites would be banned within hours of opening their...erm...doors. If you were referring to the rise of people luring children out, posing as friends or cool adults, and sexually abusing them, then I'd agree also. Again, a hothouse? No. Is it happening? Yes. Is it happening that much? No. Children have wised up, due to adults telling them not to reply, etc.
