Vatican updates seven deadly sins

Y'know, I always thought that they were called the Deadly Sins, not because they were somehow worse than more pedestrian sins like Murder and Coveting, but because they were the ones that were more likely to get you.

I think the idea is that they lead others to sin - they spread themselves.

A sin that just hurts your soul's chances is not as bad as one that by its nature lures or pushes other people's souls into damnation with yours.

When you sday " by sacrificing the smaller ones" are you referring to that bit in the NT where Jesus says " suffer little children......"

I think that this man has been misreported.
All he is saying is that old sins have their new equivalents.
He is not saying that the old terms should be disposed of,
just that people don't know what modern activities fit into the bracket.
It is advice for pastors. Only people who listen to pastors need worry.


Some possible modern sins
Downloading PC Porn = Lust
Counterfeiting, Copying other peoples work =Theft
Wars of revenge = Anger
Use of drugs that damages your health/family = Drunkenness
Dependence on Welfare for people who can work = Sloth
Corpocracy without concern for people's welfare = Greed
Energy Policies which result in Death for Millions = Murder

If you are not religious, substitute Social Responsibilty for avoidance of Sin.
Much the same thing.

I've visited the vatican and no offence but you couldn't afford any of the stuff in there it's the envy of every black gansta and rich wide dude.

Lost on fools if you ask me since some pope decided to cut off all the weeners of these precious art sculptures
 
I have one they could add to that list: Preaching a false religion!!! Oh wait, they would all be guilty of it then...
 
These new deadly sins are absurd. The original seven are elemental, a part of human nature:
lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride.​
Then we have the "new" ones:
polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice.​
Polluting? Genetic engineering? Being rich? WTF? Why isn't jaywalking on the list? Can you imagine the position this puts some people in?
"Father, forgive me, for I have sinned. I'm the obscenely rich CEO of a massively polluting genetic engineering firm. I thought I was OK, till these new sins came out. Now I'm screwed!'​
