    Omg how could they.

...But why would they do that? Is there anyone who wants to install that resource hog?

In this instance it isn't. If however it had been a direct link to a Crack or Copy of Vista that people could openly download Illegally, then it would have been a breach.

A part of Computer Sciences is actually keeping an eye on relevant information in fields that most would assume to be underground. For an example, a decent Systems Administrator will have Bug tracker feeds so as to keep their software updated and their knowledge of new attacks up-to-date.

I can't express how a group cracking an OS falls into the category, however if you buy a lot of computers and obtain an OEM install for all of them, you are going to want to make sure you have legitimate software, especially if the software has been reported as having their copy protection/licensing cracked.

Actually, this was posted to Slashdot today -------the crack is a year old, and Microsoft has already released the patch to kill it.

The funny thing is ---- who wants to deal with Vista in the first place?
If I buy a laptop in the near future, and it comes included with the machine, I'm STILL not going to use it. Thankfully, I have my Dell OEM copies of XP Pro.

I could see just one motivation for this: vista is really only desirable if you're trying to play games that are made to only work with vista. Other than that I got nothing.

I'm using Vista on this machine in hopes that the kinks get worked out soon, but it's been slow going, and it doesn't look like SP1 is going to solve a whole lot... thank god I've got XP on the other machine, and maybe ubuntu someday when I have nothing to do.

Vista is the new Windows ME, I wouldn't bother with it even if it were free.

    No kinks with Vista here...

  17. Get With It. MS had a core dump in aught aught 4. They allowed 2 million lines of code to leak, and never even bothered to update.

No news here, people do this at times.
