    is it impossible to have both?! there doesn't need to be a body present does there? who defines what a funeral is anyway.

    Once again folks: You don't have to have a body to have a funeral. You can have ashes, or you can have nothing because the body was destroyed in a plane crash or donated to science. Think of it as a memorial service. It's a ceremony for the living, not for the dead person who is, after all, dead.

    When Celia Cruz died, they had one service in New York and one in Miami. Obviously they did not ship the body down, and 100,000 people weren't there to see the body anyway. They came to dance.

    I still don't want any kind of funeral unless everyone wants to meet at the local tavern and have a celebratory remembrance with a toast in my name.
