And you don't ? Dam, you could argue anything if you really want to. This atheist " thing to be" is simply a way out for the "next generation" to keep to their religous ways and a way for them to rebel while having a fall back "group" , so as easy to say , "I am a atheist" , so it's okay.

I don't need the net to expose Christianity for the Sun worship that it is. I've got the Bible for that job.

    Malachi 4:2 (King James Version)
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

    John 1:9 (King James Version)
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

    John 8:12 (King James Version)
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

    John 9:5 (King James Version)
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

    Hmmm..
It appears you completely misunderstand atheism.
I was referring to the notion that, unlike for a theist, being indoctrinated, programmed into a belief structure is not only counter productive, self-defeating and dangerous, but also the height of arrogance (to say nothing of a complete disregard for logic).

You really find just believing (faith) is something to be proud of?

Much more so than not believing ,yes, I do. To believe in nothing is easy. No rules to follow, no morals that you have to keep up to. Any wonder of why the problems in America these days???

Did that. found it to be like a bad historical play put on by kids. really dumb. thats why my parents taught me to think for myself and be reasonably critical of shit, especially when they say "just believe me...". Yeah, right.

You know what the problem is? You are reading that the wrong way, most people LOOK for the meaning in those words. I dont want to offend you but i am not following your reasoning.

No. It's all clearly due to critically thinking, rational, atheists. We're sooo reckless...

    Again, a gross misunderstanding.
Atheism does not imply a lack of belief (or a belief in nothing (which is a contradiction BTW..)). Moreover, as far as rules go, atheists are more stringent on rule structure than any theist could ever hope to be: you see, we have actual derived rules; ones that are logically sound, and based upon more solid foundations than myth. As for morals, the situation is similar: we have established an effective codification of behaviour, known as Law. Again, supported of course logically, as opposed to mythologically.

Been a Catholic since birth , some 32 years ago. Not "born again" , but still here and happy. And what exactly do you see as the problem with morals??

Glaucon, do you realize that laws were made by theists not atheists?

And please clarify again for me what rules you guys are more stringent upon that beleivers of a faith?

morals are great. but when you attribut them, without any critical analysis, to some sayings in a book, whos to say what gets written next? and what book is right? and so on.

basic morals are inherent in humans as evolutionary group survival traits. understanding this allows us to promote the "good" behaviors and find real, effective ways of minimizing the "bad" ones other than just threatening people with eternal damnation.
