The OP is mistaken, it is Letterman who the scab is, he made a deal with the writer's union. Leno did his show WITHOUT writers, so did Jimmy Kimmel... Dave sucked even with writers....
Why don't they just fire the damned writers and hire some new ones. Are the writers of TV shows really that hard to replace? Just go out to some college campuses and find some people who can write. How hard is that? Maybe we'd get some new ideas, too; instead of the same old crap all the time.
To damn many late night shows with comics running them IMO. They should just shut them all down and put on reality shows which cost nothing to make and don't require writers!
I wondered why they didn't bring in writers from let's say England? After all half of the shows originated in England. Coupling was much better than Friends.

Stop bitching about Leno. The other late nights comedians are reading their scripts too. The biggest scab is still Dave, who made a DEAL with the union, which is not exactly the best for standing united....His show still sucks, which begs the question of : "do we really need writers?"
