No, Adstar, you are emotionally blackmailing people. The way you speak, you set up the communication so that no matter what the other person would say, they would end up looking like the bad guy, and you the good guy.

That's a great attitude. I'm just curious: What kind of a god do you believe in? and what do you do to practice this religion? (do you pray? go to church?)

Oh... and... I don't go to church because I personally believe it as pointless (and I have yet to find a church who's principals that I agree with). The only time I pray is the give thanks for the great people and events in my life and to help others see the negative that they do and how it impacts other people. I don't rely on god to help me through my everyday life. I purely rely on myself. Unlike your typical Deist, I believe that God is everything and everywhere, yet at the same time hold a higher awareness and greater conciousness than we can comprehend. I don't believe in heaven or hell, but rather reincarnation. I don't believe in sin. I simply believe that positive actions have positive consequences and negative actions have negative consequences. I believe that in each lifetime, there are certain lessons about your soul, universe, kindness and love that each of us must learn to grow spiritually. But these "lessons" aren't laid out like a teachers lesson plan. I believe that we take them at our own pace as they come. Some will spiritually achieve more than others in one lifetime. It all depends on the awareness of the individual. Once you become completely spiritually complete, than I believe that your soul and energy become one with the supreme power, thus ending the cycle of reincarnation. I know, I am weird. sounds like Karma Not at all. It makes a lot more sense than some other religions (like christianity). But what about life, the universe, and everything? Was it all CREATED by the supreme power? Did the supreme power just create the universe in a big bang and let life and then intelligence arise on its own with evolution and all?.. or did he(it?) create life (and man specifically) along with galaxies and stars and planets all at the same time?.. also you have a pretty specific cycle layed out (reincarnation, being spiritually complete, and then rejoining the supreme power) Did this just come from your own mind as the most likely scenario? I'm just wondering how you came to 'believe' in something so specific... in this context 'believe' is a pretty strong word... if you really truly 'believe' something, then anything else is simply not a possibility. Perhaps you mean 'I believe' like 'I'm not sure, but I think...' ?
What about when you dive on a grenade to save your friend's lives. It was a good thing to do, but there was a bad outcome for you. o.o
The question then becomes, "is god deserving of veneration?" If you follow Abrahamic views of deity, and their histories of that figure's activities, it become patently clear to any reasonable person that the answer is a resounding "fuck, no!". If you agree with the eastern-influenced views of the divine, or in various Indo-European polytheist views, the answer varies from divinity to divinity, and from devotee to devotee. In certain modern New Age-influenced religions, such as Wicca and Neodruidry, the answer is complex, because divinity is seen not as a clear entity with personality, but as an immanent force of which the many gods are but human perceptions and interpretations of the divine force.
The universe and life: I personally believe that a higher power created the first living organisms and we and the universe evolved from that. Kinda like adam and eve, except ALOT more basic lol. Adam and eve on the single-celled microscopic level lol. And the beginning of the universe... Honestly, I believe science. I don't hold a belief that God created the planets and stars as they exist now. I belief that the basic principals for the forming and evolution of them were caused by a higher power, but not them in themselves. As far as my "specific" beliefs.... most are based out of my personal experience and what I believe in the world to be true due to my own interactions with the world around me. I could be wrong in my beliefs, and they are not something I would die for. GASP!!! Thats right. I do not hold faith in God... yet I believe in God. I hold faith in myself. I don't believe that anyone in thier right mind should try to stand up in defense of thier faith or personal beliefs to the point of sacrificing thier life because we are all different, we all prefer different sides and aspects of life. Just because one is different than the other is no reason to die in some radical attempt to prove to yourself that your right. I believe that no body will ever know if thier right, atleast until they die. And even then, if nothing else exists, than we will never know. And it is useless to argue something that will more than likely will never be proven. Spiritual beliefs are opinions, not fact. I believe anything is possible. I believe it was possible for Jesus to be the son of God, just as its possible for Muhammad to be the savior, just as its possible that there is no God at all. Anything is possible. However, my beliefs are what I feel the most comfortable with and what I find the most logical to myself. So I choose to believe in what I believe in full well knowing and understanding the possibility that I may be right or I may be wrong. With that being said, that is why I do not put much emphasis on my beliefs because they can never be proven. So I choose to live for today, accepting whatever lay ahead. I choose to do the best I can for myself and those around me because that may be just all we have. Us. I do not waste my time indulging resources in a belief that I know is only a possibility. Instead of attending a church, or worshipping God, or anything like that, I choose to worship life by treating it as great as I can so that both myself every living creature that I come in contact with can enjoy this experience here on this planet just a little bit better. But anyways, like I said before, I do not rely on a God to assist me in any way. Because life is a miracle (so-to-speak) in itself. I believe that in myself, I have every necessity to survive day to day. Why do I need to rely on someone or something else for what I can already provide for myself? It doesn't matter to God if I do or do not believe in him. It matters to me though. As a person of faith I believe God was, is, and always will be. My actions, my beliefs, my desires will not alter that fact one iota. God does not have to believe in me but I have to believe in Him. I know this answer does not satisfy atheists but that is how I feel.
So, you believe that the scenario that you've laid out is the most likely to be closest to the truth, but are open to the possibility that you are wrong. A 'no faith required' religion. I like it.
And what religion might you follow? Usually the thing that matters most to god is that you have faith in him. You are saying that god doesn't care if you believe in him or not. So what does he care about?
Why does it matter to you? Why do you have to believe in God? Do you think that when atheists don't believe in God, they are trying to alter God's existence?
Tjis has been my question for a long time, there is this hymn which says something like "nor mans empty praise" and i was just like lol hes gathered us here to give him mans empty praise, why is that so important to him? but supposedly so demeaning to us?
