What your listening to is nu-metal not true metal..... try these bands..... although they are considered Melodic Metal (Well, most of them.) In Flames Dark Tranquility At the Gates Emperor Nevermore Carpathian Forest Celtic Frost Opeth Paradise Lost Soilwork Symphony X Testament Bluesoulrobot, i think what he calls goof-metal is actually nu-metal - for the most part at least.
Don't we all love being elitists? Last time I checked, you weren't the god that invented metal, so you have no right to preach your OPINION as TRUTH. All of those bands, with the possible exception of Nickelback, have metal influences. Nickelback isn't pop and you know it, you're just saying it for the indie cred.
Oh, an actual response to the thread. Hard/Heavy could be in reference to lyrics also, but I know that is not what the original poster intended. My metal taste doesn't go that far. It is a genre that I never really clicked with. I never liked KISS, always thought of them as really fake always wearing the makeup. Made it seem like the costume was more important than the show, though I know lots of my fav bands like Weezer consider KISS a major influence. Hard stuff I listen to: Nine Inch Nails Marilyn Manson System of a Down Rage Against The Machine The Dream Is Dead (www.thedreamisdead.com)
i saw nile last year with cradle of filth. well.. i didn't actuallye SEE them... we were laying on the floor in the lobby... but i heard them. lol. oh boy. stand up. now. do it. im not kidding. ok, grab the car keys/bycicle/subway ticket/skateboard/roller blades. find your way to the nearest music store. buy type o negative, bloody kisses. go home. put it in cd player. thank me later.
Nickleback: yes, i want my fucking nickleback. becuase your damn cd was NOT worht it! so give me my money back! nickleback is in the same catagory as faith hill. their lyrics are simple, and the words they use are incredible overused. example: i am not a leader of men, cuz i refuse to follow. do you think i can have a drink, cuz its too hard to swallow. wow. the skill there is just blinding. and why i compare them to faith hill: its not right its not fair what your missing over there. and it doesn't help that she says this little verse incredibly slow and over-annunciated.
thats quite a question. id have to say i listen to everything. i coach a dance team of 7th and 8th grade girls, so i need a well rounded selection of music to choreograph. and i keep it just that. last year, they competed with sstem of a down, and they received really high marks for orgiionallity and music. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! but as for what i listen to myself... Cradle of filth is one of my definate favorites. i hated them when i first heard them. but then i read their lyrics and i was in love. LifeHouse: can be overplayed a bit,a nd sappy, but i love to listen to the last half of their cd after a long day of cleaning, when im relaxing. Tonic: i listen to when going to sleep. System of a down... i listen to occasionally.. but ill proabaly wait till they com out with a nother cd. it seems like each cd they produce only has a few goodies.. so ya got wait of rthe next one. like.. they have 4 good songs, and 8 fillers. lol. Type o negative. for sentimental reasons. Mustard Plug, when im in a need of a punk/ska pick-me-up JaRule: that mans voice is melty. although the words coming out arn't usually that great. Ours: for those depressing days. alot of other bands that i only like one or two songs from, like stone sour: bother.. or flogging molly: irish drinking song. im moslty more of a song person than a band person, except the few i mentioned above. hm. sorry that got to be so long. skim if you like. LOL
If you really want to talk to the "Gods of Metal", contact YouKilledJesus and ChristCrusher. They both laughed when I said that Cradle of Filth was scary metal. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! By the way, how did you check on my current status? I'd like access to that book...Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Sorry about the preaching. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! It's just that sometimes I get into it too much, you know what I mean? But really, since you acknowledge my opinion as an opinion, it really shouldn't bother you that much, because, hey, we're all individuals, we have different ideas. Did I berate YKJ and CC for their laughter at my musical preferences? Nope. I just got really really scared. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Example of their ideas: dreidle of faggotry is nothing more than a commercial gimmick band of fag-goth image based wanking for weekend mall-occultists. the only thing metal about staticx is the steel 3" anal beads they all share. Sometimes I really wonder what pop is. It's short for popular, right? And ever since Linkin Park had some famous songs, some idiots have been calling it pop. I...I really don't know what to think anymore. What makes metal, "metal"? How does one specify whether such and such is "pop", and that this is not? I'd like to know your thoughts, Writer. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! (And no, I will not use your response as a way to start an argument...I'm just curious to see people's categorizations.) And as a fellow SOAD and RATM fan, I just want to say "You've got nice taste". Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Ouch. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Have you checked out their first one? It's supposed to be really good (from what I've heard). Nu-metal...? Hold on, I'll go download some of the bands you recommended, and I'll try to see the difference. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Ooh, you mean "Shit In A Bag"? *shrug* Yeah, that one's good, but I still like "Cold", since it was on the Queen of the Damned Soundtrack. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I'm into a lot of stuff. (not in any order, separated for your convenience) Vangelis, Bach, System Of A Down, Yanni, Kenny G, Train... Henry Purcell, Enigma, Good Charlotte, A New Found Glory, Howard Shore's "The Lord of the Rings" S/T... Being metal influenced is different from being metal. Some metal bands to check out (via filesharing or otherwise): Autopsy Graveland Immolation Destroyer666 Mortem Havohej Sarcofago Voivod Pestilence Sodom Kreator Hellhammer ...and many, many more.
K My musical tastes range from anything and everythig, with the sole exceptions of world music and country. Bands/Groups I'm into are Beastie Boys (yes, they actually do play their own instruments), Smashing Pumpkins, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Eric Clapton and Weezer, plus previously mentioned bands. To me, many bands and groups out there are too diverse to be confined to one genre. Creed was considered alternative before the hit, With Arms Wide Open, showing that they had what it takes to be a ballad band too. Sorry, for using Creed as an example, only one I could think of. Pop is whatever is popular at the time. That means, at one time, Nirvana was pop. In the 60s and 70s, Led Zep, Beatles, and Hendrix were pop. In the early 90s, rock was the alternative music and rap was pop. Pop=popular. A band can still rock and be pop, it just means that they get airplay, although I have to say, Linkin Park's only song on a pop station that ive heard is "in the end"

i dont really understand how creed qould "change genres" since EVERY SONG sounds EXACTLY the same. you have to wait till the chorus to figure out which song it is it gets so bad.
I'm embarassed to associate myself with you if you can't tell the difference between "arms wide open" and "what if"Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
yes, i can tell the differance, one is slow and monotonous, the other is rediculously repetitive. the lead singer of creed (im sorry, i do not follow bands closely enough to know their names) uses his voice in the same manner for every song. nickleback does the same thing. both bands sound very simialr, and a both irritating aswell. the reason i say the songs all sound the same is because the music never really changes the main few chords, just picks up or slows down... there is never anything new to the music, nothing to hold your intrest. just a list of songs about the world, its people, and god... followed by.. god dammit, fuck you, etc. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
