I was not aware that agnostics were "sola scriptura"!

BTW: In case you were assuming that Mr Lewis was Catholic you were mistaken.

I was not aware I was an agnostic. I remember myself being an atheist.

    Never did I assume that.

My apologies. It has always appeared to me that agnostics were just slightly dishonest atheists. I chose the term because I figured it would be a little less offensive to you if you happened to be (heaven forbid) a Christian.

BTW: I made the "sola scriptura" remark and reminded you that C. S. Lewis was not a Catholic because your statement about him not writing the Bible sounded almost exactly like something a fundamentalist would say. (Now that probably does offend you.

    Peace +

I assure you that it was not my intention to offend. I was just trying to inject some levity in this conference.... Man, I think everyone here must resemble this guy:

Is a chip on the shoulder required for entry or it just optional? I for one would really like to "friendly up" the discussion a bit. This place is really getting depressing! What you say we EOT and get back to a discussion of Astronomy?

    It's required.

Hi Guys...been away for awhile...things got a little heated lately...It is interesting to see that all things go back to religion... and no matter what, nobody's mind gets changed. It's sort of funny. I came up with a little analogy that nobody in my circle seems to appreciate but me. It goes something like this...

A person drives an old VW Beetle and leaves it on a low lying country road for a week. When he comes back his car is gone. He searches for it intensly...and finds it one mile from where he parked it. It is sitting 5 meters up in a tree right along a river bank. What happened?

    A. God sneezed and it just happened.
    B. College kids had a fun night on the town
    at his expense.
    C. A flood picked up his "Bug", floated it
across the low lands and parked it in the
    tree.
    D. It doesn't matter, it's just nice he got
    his car back.

I don't believe anyone at this web site would believe "D" because that is not who we are. We like to think about this stuff. One thing is certain though. It only happened ONE WAY. It didn't happen a certain way because our mind feels better when we thought that way...or someone might be offended if we think it happened another way so we will believe it happened such and such a way. It happened only one way and all the talk and speculation won't change that...But everybody around here is looking for clues and ammo to back up their "faith"...including me I suppose...

SO...I hate the word religious debate...it's worthless...I would rather this be a life exchange...talking about life when it is too late to figure out formulas...

As for astronomy...I'm looking forward to sitting down with a physics type guy who works at an "atom smasher" southwest of Chicago IL USA and come up with some close approximations to solutions.

How fast does heat dissipate in a gas cloud surrounded by a vacuum?
How fast is heat generated in a star formation that seems to take millions? of years?
This is going to take a while...

Plato and Crisp------you have associated compression due to gravity with heat build-up. You say it is impossible for heat to exit a star except through light energy. You don't think heat can "leak away" as gravity builds slowly? It is not possible to have an object 10 times more massive than our sun and be as cold as ice in the middle? Then how does a planet like earth cool down? How is the moon solid to the core and be cold on the surface yet it is obvious that lava flows have been present in the past? I find it difficult to believe that photons are the only way a mass in the vacuum of space can cool down. Yet I must agree that my vacuum thermos keeps my soup mighty hot in the winter...

    Boris- Thanks for your comments-interesting!

Paul, Lenny, & Infinity You've been way off topic...but I can relate...thanks! Don't get angry or frustrated...just watch, relate and respond like Plato does.
