Ron Paul is immaterial. Even though he pulled in a huge amount of money he's still not going anywhere. His general stance is too far off the mainstream for the majority of voters to even begin to take him seriously. He only appeals to a very narrow fringe of voters, not even enough to muster a good sneeze at the polling booths. Might as well remove him from the list today - yesterday, even.
His stance is not what separates him from the mainstream - he consistently polls as one of the top few candidates of either Party in voter agreement on issues (as does Kucinich). It's his media image that is "off the mainstream". His actual positions are pretty close to common center (with a couple of exceptions, naturally).
Kucinich and Paul are both in line with the voters on issues? That's absurd. I'll buy Ron Paul being in line on a number of issues. But how could a far left wacko and a libertarian both be in line with the voters on the issues?

Ho-hum. {Yawn} No one seriously pays ANY attention to straw polls - especially ones where supporters were bussed in. What a farce!!!
It is a total impossibility. I predicted - by diligent usage of astrological skills - more than three years ago that Hilary Clinton would become the President nest time. This was on an American site. Everyone on the forum asserted in one voice that it was an impossibility...NO-ONE likes Hilary Clinton! Sadly for them the certainty is in the Stars and alignments therein - as always.
SAM has a good point. Right now I think Romney will win. He's not leading in the polls now but he's the most presidential. If he can convince Americans that his Mormon religion is not as wacky as they think, he will be ok.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Americans don't trust Hillary. We won't elect Rudy either. The rest of the candidates just don't have it. I think it will be Hillary vs. Romney. Unless the Republicans come up with a plan Z by January. (Some hoped Fred would be it. He's not.)Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Ah... Sandy, who's this "we". He's the most electable of anybody running. Granted-- he's not YOUR type of republican, but he's solidly in the middle, which is where most Americans are. ~String
Amazing what a team of make up artists and hair stylists can do to make Bill and Hillary look presidential.
I know how to pick 'em and Rudy is not it. Americans won't elect anyone with cancer. They won't elect anyone so liberal. They won't elect anyone who allowed his city to be a sanctuary city for criminal aliens. They won't elect anyone who supports baby-killing. They won't elect anyone who is bald and unattractive. They won't elect anyone who's on their third marriage. They won't elect anyone who does not represent "them". They won't elect anyone with a lisp.... Most voters are very superficial. They want a man who is close to ideal. The list goes on and on. Rudy is a nice, fun guy. But he is not our next POTUS. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I know it sounds ridiculous, but when you add up all his cons, Rudy doesn't cut it. I may be wrong. Three marriages=ignorance of the word committment or VERY poor decision making. I would be concerned about his committment to the good of his country.
That coming from a lady who's spoken well of Gingrich... a man who left his cancer stricken wife on her deathbead for another woman. Sandy, again, I think you're wishful thinking. American's don't give a damn about his cancer or his wives. They didn't give a shit about Reagan's divorce or Kennedy's philandering. You're placing your personal and quite subjective personal morings upon the American people which is just silly. The very same American people elected Clinton, twice, and then turned around and elected Bush, twice. ~String
One thing your list doesn't take into account is who he'd be running against. Could you add to the list a woman, a black guy, or a guy who's first name sounds like "osama" and who's middle name is Hussain! That's like running a guy named Hirohito Hitler in WW2! Rudy is conservative enough that Republicans will come out in droves to vote for him over Hillary or Obama, yet liberal enough to get some independents to vote for him.
Amazing, isn't it? But it keeps happening in issues polls. Perhaps a hint can be gleaned from sites like Political Compass, in which one consistent finding is that most Americans who take those evaluations are more libertarian and more left-leaning - simultaneously - than any of the major political figures on the national scene.
