800,000 Privileged Youths Enlist To Fight In Iraq This is utterly depressing. I had always thought that, had I been Israeli, I would have done my career in the military, at least early on. Since 9/11 I've thought the same about the US. This is why I believe there should be a military service, or at least more prestige in the military. Because otherwise only the underpriviledged will fight wars, when all corners of society should contribute to these efforts. Countries like the US or Israel stand for something, unlike European countries. For values that, whether you like them or note, are those of the nation you belong to, and that you should defend, no matter what your background or financial status. This story makes me incredibly sad.
Israel has legitimate reason to aggressively depend their piece of land - they're a small country surrounded by enemies! But why does the USA have to go 'defending' itself against a country which can barely feed it's own citizens? The war in Iraq in a sham.

You don't get the point, do you? The point isn't that the Iraq war is good or bad, the point is that if more people supported the effort it would go so much better and it's such a fucking waste.

LOAC says we our troops (americans) cant fire on the enemy unless he fires at us first, we cant bomb your hostpitals or schools when you put a missle launcher on top of them, we cant torture and execute your prisoners, an iraqi would prob be better taken care of as a prisoner of war than he is when hes trying to make a living for himself in iraq, despite the fact every soldier around him secretly wants to cut his throat. America has always been attacked first, whether it was 9/11, pearl harbour, putting missles in cuba or whatever, so i guess if you want the politicians of america to stop taking over countries and targetting you, stop fucking with us, by the time we get around to attacking you, you will have probalbly forgotten about it. If you believe in evolution you must believe in survival of the fittest, the only thing keeping america from turning the entire rest of the world into a parking lot are morals (psshh), an agreement on a piece of paper, nuclear weapons, and the fact that american citizens dont want to send their sons and daughters and husbands and wives to war. just a few points; you DO fire on unarmed civilians you HAVE bombed hospitals in iraq(without any weapons in them at all) you DO torture and execute prisoners america was attacked first? lets see about that, the attack of pearl harbour occurred two years into a war in which you had been loaning arms to the allies, you could hardly call yourselves innocent bystanders. the attacks on on the WTC were performed by al-qaeda, which was lead by a saudi-arabian, even if the actions of these few people justified a full-scale war against their country, would it not make sense to declare war against THEIR country?! how are your wars against afghanistan and iraq retaliation for those attacks? missiles in cuba? lets see here, you are on a small island off the coast of one of the largest military powers in the world, they have nuclear missiles aimed at your country, they have already made attempts to assassinate you, not to mention funded trained and organised an insurgency against you... how was castro in the wrong by accepting nuclear missiles in the hope of achieving peace through nuclear stalemate? america is not as mighty as they would like you to believe; the economy is supported by petrodollars and cheap foreign labour, and the only thing that makes the military appear so much greater than any other nation(let alone the collective EU) is that you are currently involved in military conflicts which bolster your military spending figures. should it come down to an actual conflict you would find our militaries quite sufficient to destroy you.
I would not have supported Stalin or the Soviet Union to save my own life and political beliefs. I would rather succumb to capitalism (in Castro's shoes) than support the remarkable evil that was the CCCP and it's gross acts against humanity.
