I have been a a tele"fundraiser" for quite some time. Same as telemarketing. I'm 21 and I have been debating on what I should pursue as a career choice. I thought some of you in here might comment on the career you chose perhaps. The pros and cons of it..just general ideas. I don't want to go to extensive schooling.
1. Do you like tele"fundraising" - enough to want to do it for the rest of your long, sorry, miserable life?
In Canada trades are in huge demand. You can start an apprenticeship to be an Electrician, Plumber, whatever interests you. You work and they pay for when you go to school (towards getting your license) So you are getting paid while you are learning the trade. When you are done there are plenty of GREAT paying jobs. (canada anyway) Don't know its like in other parts of the country.
Im a computer programmer. In some ways I regret that decision, in some ways I dont. I actually started a thread on that on another forum, but I can't link it here because Im under 20 posts (I guess to prevent spammers?). Its on Primal Nation Dot Com in the Social Chat->Science and Technology section. Hasn't gotten any comments yet, so feel free leave me some input there. I'd love to read it. I actually live in arkansas. I thought about getting A+ certified, but now days you can take that and .25, get you a sams choice cola. I would actually enjoy studying genetics, however due to lack of funding..as well as job opportunities in the area, i've yet to do that. I would move, however I enjoy living in the country. I also have to many ties here, as well as my significant other.
I will, im at work right now so I dont have the abundant time to create an account. But I will tonight I am more then sure.
Don't become a biologist. Well, unless you like alienated family and in-laws, neglected relationships, the constant questioning of who and what you are (by yourself and others), supervisors with egg-thin egos who can make or break your life on a whim - and, do, particularly the batshit insane ones, which exist in quite reasonable frequency - the constant struggle for grant money and the never-ending battle against colleagues for good ideas and the right to publish them first once they've been cleared by your nearest competitors. The finest example of social Darwinianism imaginable, short of a 100-mile deathmarch in the blazing sun with soldiers on halftracks shooting the layabouts.
There is similar competativeness and management experiences with other career choices. believe me. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! The grass is always greener. heh
