That's because most people(who I know) don't punish their kids at all. They don't even pay any attention to them, that's also why most kids are stupid.
It might seem stupid, but it's super-effective as long as you make them stand there the right way, and without playing. My step-dad's 3 sons won't listen to anyone who watches them other than me. I don't even know why, but that corner shit works.

I think Xev already said it: kids can't stand boredom. It frustrates them to no end.

Good heavens, NO! No one should "throw" a child unless it's onto a nice soft bed or such ...and even then it's not good practice.

No, kids that are wild and uncontrollable should be placed very carefully in a padded cell in a local home for wild, uncontrollable kids (nuthouse for short!).

Haven't you already admitted, on a public Internet forum, that you can't control your own child? If you can't control him, then.....?

They'll have to learn many such lessons about life sooner or later.

Kids shouldn't always get what they want.

Frustration is a major part of life in the 21st century.

Boredom is something that only the unintelligent experience. Anyone with any degree of intelligence can entertain themselves almost endlessly.

That could even more traumatise the child.
A person should be but in "a padded cell" only if it poses a danger to itself or others.

Don't matter if he's already so fucked up that he breaks things all over the house, and doesn't listen to reason or to punishments. He's beyond worrying about "traumatization". A nice padded room will do him good ....in that he won't harm himself or other valuable things.

I think a psychiatrist is more competent in this matter and that any medical advice on the internet should be taken with extreme caution.

I don't think a psychiatrist is going to keep the kid from breaking things in the house! Now once the kids in the padded cell, maybe the psychiatrist can do some good ....like they do with criminals who are then released on his recommendations only to go out and kill someone else!!

    Psychiatrists suck giant donkey dicks.

The notion of some normal, standard human behavior everybody should be molden in (with drugs if needed) is really "encouraging". No sorrow, no sadness, no mood swings, nothing negative to be tolerated. Only idiotic, "happy" optimistic 24/7 people, even if they are being arseraped. The new brave world indeed. Viva science without consciousness and afterthoughts.

However, it was "experimentally" proven that psychiatrist knows shit about who's normal and who's not except in the extreme cases. Absolutely "normal" volunteers just told highly esteemed mental health professionals that they have voices in their heads, nothing else, in most of the cases volunteers were locked up and drugged for months.

From personal experience, Prosac do change something inside of you, you on Prosac and you - are two quite different human beings. The person on Prosac really sucks arse even though he's almost always "happy", even while sticking knife in your back. Selfishness of Prosaced just skyrocket, no normal human feelings, just robot zombies making sure they will not get mood swings. Excellent corporate material. Stay away from Prosaced people, don't let your family and friends to become half zombies. Better sad or even suicidal than Prosaced.

The problem with psychiatric training is 1) it emphasizes norms, biochemistry and does not develop interpersonal skills 2) it is weak on cross-cultural issues and cannot place behavior in a social, historical context. (for example the epidemic of barbituate and tranquilizer distribution by psychiatrists who treated middle-class housewives in the late 50s and early 60s as showing mild mental illness symptoms rather than not being fulfilled by stiff gender roles and other problems associated with 'successful' suburban life. They have a great tendency to pathogize individuals rather than notice wider patterns. And it literally pays to do this.) 3) they tend to be white men with patterns of emotional suppression (and high suicide rates) and are not perhaps the best ones to judge people who have greater acceptance for and respect for their own emotions.

It is as you say, but that person still has a medical education and knows more about mental health than some random bystander.

You really don't know a whole lot about what I do or do not know. I may know as much or more about this subject than you do.

Do you know what off label use means? It means you take a drug approved for one population and apply it to another with little or no imperical testing. For example, I have taken diamox off label for the treatment of increased intracranial pressure. The disease I have is so rare that their has been little effort to approve drugs for treating my disease.

The only two drugs I know are approved by the US FDA to treat adults with ADHD is Adderall XR and Strattera. Other drugs are used- OFF LABEL.

As for atypical antipsychotics in children, as far as I am aware they have only been approved by the US FDA for use in adults. Children take them off label. Testing has been very sparse and doctors typically rely on anecdotal evidence when choosing to prescribe them. Childhood onset schizophrenia is incredibly rare, striking about 1 child in 40,000 . I am unsure of the rate of bipolar disorder in children, however I know that bipolar disorder is notoriously difficult to diagnose in children because it presents with symptoms similiar to other childhood emotional problems, such as PTSD. It's also important to note that many of these drugs cause obesity and diabetis, and that the long term side effects of these drugs is generally not known. Generally they make you sleepy and mentally sluggish. I would never put my child on an antipsychotic drug unless and until they are approved by the US FDA. I would rather see my child placed inside a group home or residential treatment center than on an antipsychotic medication- that is how strongly I feel these medications may harm children in the long term. I would also never put my child on ADHD medications until he or she had completed a course of behavioral therapy.

I don't think I have suggested punishing children, although other people on this forum have. I believe that therapy, parent training, and behavior management is key for the treatment of seemingly "depressed/bipolar/adhd/add" children. I believe that children with Tourettes syndrome often need counseling to deal with the effects of their disorder. If they have OCD (which explains most of the behavioral difficulties in children with Tourettes syndrome) then they need treatment for that also.
