Romulans used Green disruptors and the Dominion did NOT use phasers but "phased poloron beams" similar to phasers, but not the same thing. ~String
There are many kinds of weapons. Here's a list of distruptor weapons: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Disruptor A list of ship-mounted weapons: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Directed_energy_weapon#Ship-mounted
the ferengi energy whip went from yellow to white A phase cannon looks like its orange, red, and white. So there is no standardization? oh, and thanks for the links spidergoat. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

I suggest that this reasoning was the same for the origin of "Warhammer 40K Vs Star Trek" and "Halo vs Star Trek".
Borg use Green. Species 8472 uses Orange. Borg weapons were strong at first, but Voyager learnt how to become MUCH stronger against Borg weapons. Now, Federation Phasers are much stronger since the tech is 20 years ahead of time (They obviously got the adv. tech from Voyager and stuck it on other ships)
No...Federation phasers are still standard. The only compatible new future-tech were the retractable ablative armor and the transphasic torpedoes. Voyager merely received intelligence from Seven on how to use their phasers more effectively against the Borg. However, this was not much of an improvement. The vast improvement on Voyager is the shield modulations that allow them to better defend against the Borg.
Standard Federation phasers are orange. Like I said, energy weapon beams are "encoloured" by their emmitting technological parts. Why they're orange I dunno. (I'm ignoring the fact that strictly speaking they should be invisible in a vacuum)
well...that's sexist. Its not the sci-fi part that interests me so much. Its the standardization of the colors vs weapons. I like continuity.
Not only are Trek weapons very powerful, they are surgically precise (ship mounted phasers used to correct a geological fracture or do a C-section on a giant space-faring creature without vaporizing it).
