    ewww, good one.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
    And talk about their homes

And there's a girl, in this harbor town
And she works, laying whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor
    From the sea."

    :thankyou:

    A decent sound

I don't think it's bloody awful. It has the same sort of appeal as Belle & Sebastian, that just about anybody could sing the song, while invoking a bit of Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. A dangerous combination, but one that works.

Lo-Fi pop is actually a good place to find some interesting music. If these guys decided to go Super-Fi, they would have some of the same appeal as the Flaming Lips. Whether or not they could do it musically is another question; there's a reason they're a Lo-Fi pop band.

I may not rush out and buy the album, but the next time I encounter it, at least I'll know what it is. And the way I look at the marketplace, that's good news for them. (In other words, they're not one of those bands that I recognize for being awful. Like Candlebox, for instance.)

I like Lo-fi bands, I seek out bands that minimise music. I actually bought this album because I heard the song "Butterfly Nets" playing in a used book store I was browsing last week. Nice, I like the jazzy feel of that song.

    Bob Dylan: Disease of Conceit

There's a whole lot of people suffering tonight
    From the disease of conceit.
Whole lot of people struggling tonight
    From the disease of conceit.
    Comes right down the highway,
    Straight down the line,
    Rips into your senses
Through your body and your mind.
    Nothing about it that's sweet,
    The disease of conceit.

There's a whole lot of hearts breaking tonight
    From the disease of conceit,
Whole lot of hearts shaking tonight
    From the disease of conceit.
    Steps into your room,
    Eats your soul,
    Over your senses
    You have no control.
    Ain't nothing too discreet
    About of disease of conceit.

There's a whole lot of people dying tonight
    From the disease of conceit,
Whole lot of people crying tonight
    From the disease of conceit,
    Comes right out of nowhere
And you're down for the count
    From the outside world,
    The pressure will mount,
Turn you into a piece of meat,
    The disease of conceit.

    Conceit is a disease
That the doctors got no cure
They've done a lot of research on it
But what it is, they're still not sure

There's a whole lot of people in trouble tonight
    From the disease of conceit,
Whole lot of people seeing double tonight
    From the disease of conceit,
    Give ya delusions of grandeur
    And a evil eye
    Give you idea that
    You're too good to die,
Then they bury you from your head to your feet
    From the disease of conceit.

Oh, it's all cool. And Tosh is awesome; you won't hear me complaining. In fact, on the reggae tip, look around and see if you can find 54-46 Was My Number; it's a two-disc compilation of Toots & The Maytals, 48 tracks, and the remastering sounds good. In fact, I think I'll put that one on right now. (If my daughter will allow it; she's been demanding Peter Gabriel's Us all day.)

    Minimize?

Although I'm going to guess it's not what you meant by minimizing music, see if you can find a recording of the Kronos Quartet performing the work of Phillip Glass. You can hear Glass as a classical composer, and also detect aspects of his evolving minimalism. Absolutely astounding, I tells ye.
