American vs Iran would be like the American vs the whole Middle-east region which I would say is too much even for the military superpower. Thing is do they have enough reason to be in the area outside their own interest of black gold dominance. They should be prepare to be Vietnamed again the longer they stay in that area. LOL...

You can't just compare a nation as if it were a playing card. There is no ''beat'' Iran, or ''beat'' America, it's war, not a game of poker.

I believe that if America even so much tries to invade Iran, they'll get their asses handed to them. The world would not tolerate this. If america attacked Iran, dont be surprised to see the UK and Europe stand up to this crime, or lose support for the USA. America will soon realise that its NOT the boss. It's NOT strong. It's weak, because it has no faith. Technology? Anyone can develop technology, but it takes faith and dignity as much as technology to win a war, and that's something Iran has plenty of

    Anyone can develop technology?

So that means the Muslim and Arab world have collectively decided not to develop technology then? Wrong! They can't develop technology because they have closed societies that do not reward open thinkers and innovation...

Stealth fighters, carriers, cruise missiles, Iran does not even have a navy...

the US could destroy Iran's army just like they did to Iraq 17 years ago... Now if the United States wants to occupy the country, overthrow the government and place a new one - then they are beyond their reach.

And if Iran were to attack with nukes, then they can expect to have a very big firecracker shoved up their ass.

Yes anyone can develop technology. There is no law that says it MUST be an American that builds technology.

And america is enjoying its brief moment of power, but power shifts, and it will shift again in favor of Persia, and Persia will reign down on the US what the US has reigned down on her Brothers.

Iran has stealth fighters and ICBMs, as well as a Navy. It does not have carriers, however, but dont be surprised if they purchase any

Purchase carriers? from whom? Russians? Nations sell carriers now?

And yes, they have a navy, but compared to the American navy its useless. Sorry if I sound like an American egotistical jerk, which I am not, I am against any sort of confrontation with Iran, but assuming it ever happens, the United States will easily be able to decimate anything Iran even dares to throw at them. You can have as much of a will and spirit to fight as you want it wont help you when your enemy can just kill you with the touch of a button.

Guerrilla warfare is the only useful tactic against American troops if Iran was to fight America, and that will only occur if the US tries to occupy the country.

    No it doesn't.
And when (if) they do get them they don't have the necessary infrastructure and weapons systems to use them (i.e. AWACS with data link for target hand-off, the requisite AAMs etc).

Nope, IRBMs maybe, but not inter-continental.

    Barely.

This has been happening for a while, Aircraft carriers have been sold since WWII, However yes, Iran's navy will not survive, Its different once on land though, If somehow Iran can convert to a guerilla war, then they can survive,.
Hopefully the OPEC countries won't allow this to happen and will force the US out by increasing the price of oil.

Do not reward open thinkers and innovation ?, Why then is the President of Iran endorsing Nuclear energy and not been voted out of office ?

America was a Isolationist society in the 1930s up to Pearl Harbour, does that mean that they didn't develop technology ?

I think he means its against the Muslim belief to innovate. That or the fact that becuase there is never really any peace there, it makes it hard to innovate. Plus you must consider the fact that research and innovation cost money, and not a lot of Middle East countries have that.

Isolationist? The US welcomed, for example, several prominent Jewish scientists from enemy countries, who had some influence on key technological developments. And intellectual, as well as technological, trade with the world was never blocked.

It's not a matter of law. Iran has failed to develop technology because it has been crippled by culural and physical realities - including an inability to educate girls, a failure to remove the intellectual and practical restrictions of an inadequately sophisticated and oppressive religion, and a geographical location in the middle of the longest abused agricultural ecosystem on the planet.

Even now, rather than put effort into heat engine solar or the like, something new with a future, Iran imitates the West and mortgages its future for nuclear power. This is a crippling lack of vision.

After reviewing Wikipedia (which lists many sources), the CIA World Factbook, Information Please and the NY Times Almanac, I have compiled these comparative statistics:

    Iran-
    GNP/GDP of about $599 billion
    PCI (PPP) of about $8,700
    Military spending $6.5 billion

    USA-
    GNP/GDP of about $12,500 billion
    PCI (PPP) of about $44,000
    Military spending $540 billion

First off-- the USA isn't going to war against Iran unless Iran attacks.

Secong off-- the USA is stretched pretty thin, and unless the US reinstates the draft, there is no way they are going to attack Iran.

Third off-- if there were a "war" against Iran, the USA would (just like in Iraq) win easily, but would be drawn into a long and bloody guerilla conflict which would wear-down the American military machine to the point where "victory" would become meaningless. There would simply be no way of "winning" in Iran unless the policy involved doing TWO things that the USA would no do: either total sterilization or absolute oppression of its people under threat of annihilation (i.e. "for every American that dies, 1000 of you will die). In either case-- the US isn't prepared for those options and is therefore unwilling to engage Iran.

So, again, there won't be a conflict, it would have no gain to either nation.

Iran will get it's nuclear bomb and, just like the rest of the nuclear possessing nations, it won't use it because the one nation it wants to use it on the most: Israel, just so happens to have more (for now).

OPEC countries only sell oil for dollars. If they increase the price of oil that increases the demand for dollars....which helps the US.

Which is a GREAT exmple, thank you! Not since Algebra (about, oh, a thousand years ago) has the Muslim world contributed to the scientific advancement of this planet.

    superstring.

    Good points. One possible exception:

"So, again, there won't be a conflict, it would have no gain to either nation."

Perhaps but not sure about Iran. An attack on Iran would consolidate the power of the nutbars in Tehran. Every time the USA threatens Iran, support for extremists goes up...even among moderate Iranians.

Any strike against Iran will be against select military targets...not the regime, large numbers of soldiers and definitely not civilians or civilian infrastruture. the USA would be walking a fine line between being disdained as it is today in the world and crossing into Nazi-like image. After the military strikes, the nutbars are heroes of the Muslim world and regimes from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia might fall to more crazies.

Nukes and the infrastructure of rockets, etc. are useless militarily to the Iranians. They have only prestige and propaganda value. they would probably rather have them taken out quickly than to be in a position to retaliate with one themselves. Then they will be victims of pre-emptive American-Israeli aggression. The crazies in tehran have played bush like a fish on the line.

The USA can't win a war against Islamic nutbars with military strikes. The USA can take out pieces of hardware but at the end of the day, 1.2 billion Muslims will still be around and despise the Americans even more. I don't think Bush and his buddies are that foolish. The wild card is Israel and the wrench it throws into trying and evaluate the Middle East.

Sure, everybody can try to develop technology, but everybody doesn't. Iran can't even pump its own oil and natural gas out of the ground. And any major industrial construction project has to be run by Europeans.

That's true, but imagining a world where a country as backwards as Iran ascends to international prominence is pretty hard to do..

Norse, I posted this same crap in another thread that you seem to have dismissed. IF, the United States falls (which won't be anytime soon) as a superpower, you can bet that Russia and China will have something to say about Iran attempting to be the next superpower (which it won't be anytime soon).
