I was watching a program on discovery channel about the enhancement of the human species through nanotech and brain-machine interface. Several of the scientists interviewed discussed the possibility of flooding a human brain with nanobots which would:
    a. Enhance the brain's natural functions, for whatever purpose.
    b. Eventually, it would be possible for the nanobots to observe the neurons, learn their functions, kill them, and take their place, over a certain period of time. Given that scientists now believe that the cells in the brain die and are replaced, like all other cells in the body, this would be like a permanent replacement. The (now fully mechanical) brain could then be removed from the body and placed in a prosthetic body, or in some kind of simulated world, etc...

What do you think of this?

I almost forgot: option two would also supposedly result in immortality.

I think cyber brains on some level are inevitable, it'll probably be quite a while before you can replace your entire brain with a mechanic one but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some kind of cybernetic devices in our brains in the next few decades.

Personally I believe nanotechnology will be the biggest breakthrough in human history when it's perfected. It'll solve almost all our problems, grant us near immortality and put the rest of the universe within our reach. Why build bulky spaceships to keep our frail bodies alive when we could simply transfer our consciousness into an artificial body that can transform matter into anything it needs?

This does raise an interesting question though, if you could live forever in an artificial world (a perfect virtual reality) where you can do anything you want would you do it?

The best thing about it is that this technology seems to be within our grasp. It's fairly close. My generation (i'm just 17) may live to see it.

Why is the intelligence and machines board so empty? It's the most fascinating science, and the one that shows the most promise.

because mother fuckers, cock suckers, and assholes only post in the politics forum.

Do you mean me? wouldn't it be infinitely much better to change the neurons structure to that of a much faster evolving spiecies, say the most fast evolving spiecies, and otherwise let the organism be exactly how it is?

Let's say it becomes 4 times as intelligent as any other human. we could let the new species replace us and let it find out by itself how to best improve itself.

Then, we need some cables, joysticks, and other controls to use our brain,

If we want to see the things far away from us, it's simple, just ask the brain to zoom it.
If we want to write the examination, no need to read all the things, just ask the brain to scan all the pages of the book.

No need to worry about mental tensions, just switch off the brain.
