Matrix is a very philosophical movie. It kept me thinking for a long while... What if the world is really a matrix? :bugeye:
plato's cave i think. but, i was too enthused and fascinated like a little child by "bullet-time" to really notice much beyond that philosophically....
Actually, I was having thoughts along this line even way before the movie came out. Specifically, in the context of epistemology. Suppose we are all one giant computer simulation. Then all we could ever hope to learn are the underlying rules of the simulation; we could never hope to gain access to or glimpse the "real" universe within which the computer simulating us is performing its computation. Of course, computer simulations are just an analogy. I guess the deeper underlying thought is, it may be absolutely impossible for us to learn the ultimate truths of existence (i.e. a real "theory of everything".)
It doesn't matter. Understanding our universe matters. Theorizing that there is more than we can experience is pointless. I can't wait for the sequels though Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!.
I have discussed this with my friends for a while now and we got so confused, in the end we tried to forget about it
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but just in case I'm not - Yoga is a branch of Buddha, and those Yoga masters can do amazing things. I think it's because they believe that the world doesn't actually exist.... or maybe they know? :bugeye: But what if it is true? What if the universe is not real, a simulation? If it is, understanding our universe will be pointless, but understanding that "Matrix" will make sense. We could bend its' rules. If it is true, it explains everything not yet explained. The existance of god, the afterworld, de ja vu, worm holes, gravitation... Maybe it would also explain alien abductions. Maybe this simulated world contains many life forms and some kind of an error in the simulation braught the other species here... Ok, I'm starting to sound crazy... No idea. I don't think so. They do amazing things from practice most likely. A lot of Buhddism's ideas are based on "letting go", since they believe the world is not real - as opposed to Christian's belief based on hope. Remember that spoon bending kid in the movie wears a Buhddist monk's outfit and talk like a Buddist monk? That is not by accident.
Really? Like what? I'm Agnostic. But Bhuddism is starting to appeal to me. If it can let me do cool things.. that would be another reason to join in.
See? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe they know that the world is not real, and they actually practice bending its' rules.
You quoted the wrong guy dude. BloodSuckingGerbile is the person who originated that comment. Not me. Yeah but that's in the movie though. The real life is much different.

'How do we know we aren't dreaming/in a computer program/a butterfly/dead....' It's the same question generally every time.
*rofl. yes, i was pretty sure that something as unoriginal as this had been discussed here before. doesnt take much brainpower to wonder if perhaps we'll hallucinating microbes who are actually stranded in the wiring of the inner solar panel of a satellite orbitting some star in andromeda millions of lightyears away....
BloodSuckingGerbile Yoga is a branch of Hinduism. It's supposed to help you reach inner peace/higher planes through breathing, etc. So I guess it is a way of getting into a kind of overarching 'matrix.' But by then the logic or the structure of the 'matrix' doesn't matter. Maybe it is like that old paradox--once you've found what you're seeking, you don't care about it anymore because it is so great that you found it. Is that a paradox or am I just tired? Maybe I'm just not explaining what I thinking about very well.
Sorry about that. I haven't viewed any of those threads, so I didn't know what they were about. You've just disproved all my theories...
That is already a choice you made. Even if this is not the final reality, I can still find enough meaning in it to last me a lifetime. Understanding our 'unreal' universe is still very intersting. Matrix? God? Nothingness? We'll see about that later. "I know that this steak isn't real, yet it is very tasty." "I know this world is an illusion, so I will not run from that angry grizly"
I think the main thing is to be able to not take life too seriously.. and really let go.. That way you experience more and have a fuller life. I really find it hard to remember this all the time.
I always think it's really sute and naive when people say stuff like that. "I never thought about it before..." Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! And yeah, me too:
