You want two SATA drives, striped, to speed up disk xfers too.

ATI stuff is lovely, ... when it works, ...!!

Drivers like you say can be a pain. I had a ATI TV-tuner/TV-out card way back. Common fault with them was that while you could pick up TV signals just dandy, the sound didn't work, ... I had two before I gave up.

I have seen ATi work. One of my friends has it and its a demon. No hassles, but I have two ATi cards in my draws that blue screen all the time (one was my gf`s).

The big crunch came when installing ubuntu. You can do the most amazing stuff with your desktop with something called XGL. My friend who has a laptop with an ATi card in it could not install XGL as there was no ATi screen card support for his card. His default display was also very pixled.

I have chosen Nvidia because I personally have never had a hassle with one (my one mate has issues with his Nvidia in linux... he over clocked the card a couple of 100%`s to many... those linux drivers are powerful!)

I recon most of my prejudice to the brand came from their Microsoft monopoly tactics and personal experience, but as I mentioned earlier on. AMD has bought them out, so I am really hoping for major improvements... and if they do improve. I will try it out again.

But for me, now. Nvidia FTW! (They also have a better resell value)

I've read about XGL before, looks really interesting. Last I heard though people were working on reverse engineering both ATI and Nvidia drivers for it, since neither worked properly. Something about XGL requiring kernel access to the drivers which neither company would officially support (trade secrets and such). That was some months ago though...

Make sure you have a good cooling system, It makes all the difference in speed. The cooler the processer, the smoother the gameing!

P.S. when this beast is completed, could you post pics? I would love to see it!

I will post pics when it is up, but it will definetely be a little while. I am just planning out the future computer, but it will be a few months til i get it. Cant wait! I will probably change a few of these specs as technogoly becomes available... but i wont go with ATI ... ive had so much problems with ati its not even funny. Im going to stick with Nvidia

What ever you do don't get a Seagate Harddrive...they will scram on you with constant use in 3 to four years...
IF you don't go SATA then I'd suggest Western Digital...

    Can't agree.
All hard drives nowadays are pretty much the same in failure, experience of individual users varies, of course, but go talk with someone working in a computer shop,
And Seagate gives better warranty than most.

Are you insane!?!!?!?!??!?!?!?!? 4500!?!?!?!?! and not quad core!?!?!??!?!??!?! man wtf are you thinking?!??!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!I mean its not nessecary and if you want it mainly for gaming and well.....but still I mean personally I would sacrifice the graphics down to the xfx gtx 8600( going by memory not sure if thats the exact model) to get to quad so that way you can always upgrade.

Two 2 GB RAM modules instead of one of 4GB.

It's more practical thing. If one is broken, you'll still have PC that works.
