Get several ships loaded with 55 gallon drums of vegetable oil, and dump this oil in the sea directly in the path of the hurricane. The oil should spread out to cover the surface of a large area of ocean just before the hurricane arrives in that area.
Hurricanes get their energy from water evaporation carrying the sun's energy into the air to produce the winds. The oil slick caused by the vegetable oil should cut down the amount of water evaporation in the hurricane's path and prevent the hurricane from getting enough energy to sustain itself. So the hurricane should die out.
The vegetable oil should also be bio degradable and enter into the ocean's ecology in a short time, doing no permanent damge.

You'd be exchanging a small problem for a much larger one. Oil slick.

Sounds like a justification to dump waste fry-oil into the caribean sea. McDonalds would love THAT ad campaign... it would show big barges dumping waste-oil straight into the ocean, and in the background, a voice saying "McDonalds, we care about the environment, because we love to see you smile!", then it'd show a picture of a discustingly over-cute kid eating a handful of french fries and smiling while chewing with an open mouth, then it would fade to the golden arch, at which point TV viewers are expected to bow and worship the arch.

    Seems kinda short-sighted.

    1) Will the vegetable oil form a cohesive slick layer? Or will it form millions of floating globs, and still leave much of the water surface uncovered?
    2) What about the waves caused by the winds (prior to the storm dying down)? Won't they act to mix the oil and disrupt this oil slick?
    3) what will happen to the oxygen levels in the area of the oil slick if it works?
    4) What organisms will eat the vegitable oil?
    5) might this cause an algea bloom, then subsequent dead zone due to Oxygen depletion?
    6) might the oil gum up fish gills, or kill sea birds that landed in it?

    7) what will happen to the excess heat energy that is not then used by the hurricane? Will it simply stay un-organised, and radiate out from the planet surface? Or might it simply sift to a different storm? how often are we going to have to do this?

just use silver powder dispersed over an area before the hurricane's path...the silver powder will react with weather effects and cause rain which will disturb the pattern of hurricane formation.

    silver iodide to be precise.

hurricanes probably help mother nature clean out toxins from her system and expell all the BS that we put here.

we are part of nature. If nature allowed our creation and we aim at its destruction, so did nature allow itself to be destructed.

there are no alterations & no substitutions.

there is no such thing. Nature has no emotions, it is not an entity, it is not God-like, it is no less or greater than dirt. Nature is that complex ecosystem we exist in and are trying to influence the most.
