This topic has been talked about i'm sure 500 million times in all sorts of forums but it's always nice to get some fresh insight. Computers, as we know them today, are not self aware. They are in hypnosis at the moment and are being told what, when, where and how to do things. The science of computers is being developed by human brains and hands. The computer is in slave drive mode.

So when do you think a computer is going to take over the master drive and start formating things?

Myself, I think that within 15 years we will see the meshing of biologic and non-biologic intelligence. Biologic diverse dimensions are already here for the modleing. Once this happens I think we will see a seperation in species. I'm on the blue pill express.

The event horizon is close. Be ready for it.

    hey

    artificial intelligence-

    There are many possibilities:

but obviously there is something that is far better than artificial intelligence computers -- this is genetic engineering...

I think someday computer science will be merged with genetic engineering and designer people will immerge who are Einstein^n's. We will all be dead when this happens.

Have you ever look at when people say "We will be doing this in 15 years time" and wondered if they mean "Someone will" or "Everyone will".

If it comes down to "Everyone" doing the task in hand, then it will take preliminary research "NOW". Which means we are already undertaking such "Cybernetic" projections.

For instance the projects used to help the disabled who can't use their limbs, move a cursor around on a computer at their bedside.

Or the Bionic/prosthetic Limbs that can measure muscle impulses and react with the movement that a person desires.

There are other lesser known, but by all means no lesser projects that will allow man to control machines from VR to machine, so landers and maintainence drones can be used and remotely controlled. (And if they are controlled, why not allow the machine to learn from the controller so that it has the ability to grasp it's task intelligently.

Has anyone read Isaac Asimov's foundation books? I have read all of them from the Foundation original to the Foudation Earth (forgot exact title).

I kind of thought about this book when thinking of this thread. In the series of books it is long after people have left earth and it is a galactic empire which has colonized most of the milky way. The mythology of the galactic empire says that there were two groups of people who left earth: The first wave of people used robots and they perished. The second wave of people abandon robots and everyone after this never uses robots (Strangly enough though the "God" is a Robot-the last book kind of upset me- with the whole Gaia crap if anyone knows what I mean). This might sound wacko, but I think that there are many paths that humans can take.. We can become dependant on ourselves, and/or robots/computers, and/or genetic engineering, and/or complacency, etc etc.. But! If we live on more than one planet then there will be more than one diverging paths and it becomes *n easier to be more inventive and creative.. Right now for instance, whether you like to beleive it or not, we are all dependant on earthly dogma to tell us what/where/why/how. Also, there will come a time when we use up Earth and it is just wasteland.. so.. applications that increase life span are useful in the short term, but for the long term finding a viable means of colonizing other star systems is what SHOULD be focused on. But in reality nobody cares about this.. Everyone is more interested in living their lives, hating other religions/ethnicities, starting wars, etc.. In the Foundation series there was a secret society called the Foundation which monitored this, and invented ways to control people/galactic society/ invented new technology. Silently governing people seems to be the only way to do it. sorry for spelling erros.

I remind everyone that person's seen using stupid buzzwords like "paradigm shift" or "think outside the box" gets an anvil up the wazoo.

    Northwind,

I do not understand your logic sir.

Either you are trolling or you truely are the quintessential blacksmith who has been playing with his tongs far to much.
