I am sick of my stupid Science Fiction class. Why is it a requirement? I don't f'ing know. Here I am up to my elbows in pointless homework and if I don't do it it will bring down my GPA, but I HATE doing it. Death to Frankenstein, Battlestar Galatica and annyoingly smart people in my class that never shut the hell up!

the answer is obvious, stop wasting your time in an inneficient education system while sucking money from an already overworked system whos deficit is growing by the day. go get a job and produce something.

EDIT: also, i remember athelwulf talking about SCI-FI class too, is the american education system dumbing your generation down on purpose or are classes like this the result of an aleady stupid generation?

Hmm...I didn't quite understand that last bit of what you said, but let me think...BOTH! Well, actually just the annoying people who think they are smart and don't shut the hell up, how about that? The people who raise there hand every five minutes because they always think they are smarter then the teacher, or the people who speak without raising their hand because whatever they have to say is more important, or the people who ramble on and on for ten minutes about something completely irrelevant to the discussion, or the people who shout out opinions out of turn, or the people who won't put their hand down and perpetuate a class discussion when we could be spending time working on our group projects, or the people who talk for so long that my teacher is forced to check her watch to make sure other people have time to offer their opinions. THOSE people are the people I am angry with. Specific enough for you?

Really I am just sick of the class and want the quarter to be over with so I can learn something I am interested in...end of story.

Sounds like a fun class. But I can't believe it's a requirement. Are you in college or high school?

A friend of mine took History of Rock and Roll in college as a blow off class. It was fun, easy, and definately was not a requirement.

I have a job, thank you very much, and I work my ass off. I want a better one. That is why I am in school, putting MY time and money into the system. Otherwise, I am not sure. Supposedly I am learning about genre and how it fluxuates based on the opinions and views of the present day society. Why does it have to be focused on SF? I have no idea.

I am at a University. I have to choose a focus or an "option" within my major and this class is my "option core". It's supposed to prepare me for the other types of classes I will be taking for the next two years; pretty much a reading and writing intensive program. I have to read a novel every four days. So far we have covered Frankenstein, War of the Worlds, I Robot, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Parable of the Sower, Left Hand of Darkness, Neuromancer and Genre: The New Critical Idiom. I don't mind the reading, but the workload is massive. I have had to create a Wikipedia page, a Graphic Novel, and am currently putting together a portfolio and a final apologia. The days I am not in class I have to turn homework in online before noon and respond at least twice in several online discussions. I am pulling out my hair and just want it to be over. The class started out as interesting and fun, but now it is crunch time and my teacher refuses to let up, even in light of the huge projects she is assigning. Believe me, this is not a blow off class. I have never had so much homework in one class before.

No, I'm talking about field work vs paper work.

Field work might be physically harder, but paperwork can be more stressful. Moreover it might not leave time for enough physical activity increasing the stressload.

I always liked physical labour because you work your ass off, go home and don't have to think about it anymore. No such luxury for the kind of deadline orientated work I do currently.

hardly. in a city job you come in late and johnson doesnt get his report on time, no big loss, theres plenty of other useless paperwork around. if i come in an hour late it offsets the milking routine for the entire week, we have to rechedule milk pickups, we have to change doses for any cows being treated. if i come in late and a cow is having trouble calving, my lateness could mean her death.

if you make a fuckup then johnson gives a report with a typo in it, if i make a fuckup we have to put $5000 worth of milk down the drain.

your right that there is no comparison.

I wasn't really talking about a standard deskjob. More about my own job

The last contract I checked was for the sum of USD 2,000,000,
if I had fucked up that, my severed head would now be on a pike by the entrance as a warning to the rest.

Besides I have to work with diplomats and a mistake may well cost our country internationally.

So yes, you can't really compare desk job to field work, because they are very different and both can cost much if done improperly.

I have been thinking about secrets.

    What is the secret?

The secret is about the laws of attraction and how we 'attract' things to us with our thoughts, whether they be positive or negative thoughts.

The phrase 'be careful what you wish for' is the essence of the secret!

I have always known through experience that thoughts can manifest things, and have used visualisation techniques to achieve results. I have also sadly noticed how my negative thoughts can manifest too, if I spend too long thinking about them!

I did think this was an unknown phenomenon, but apparantly it is not. It is well known amongst the rich and successful who may have used this knowledge to get what they wanted.

There is a film about this 'phenomenon' called 'The Secret'.

    http://www.thesecret.tv/home.html

It says this on the site for the film:

" For the first time in history, the world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal The Secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it... Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein.

In this astonishing program are ALL the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret."

I do not know what causes thoughts to manifest, but I have found it to be the case all my life, if you focus for prolonged periods on a particular train of thought, with viusalisation etc.

So, give it a whirl. Lose your negative outlook, think positive and see what happens. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

    Pass this knowledge on!

Let this secret be a secret no more!

What is "The Secret," or is it a "secret" until you pay the money for the DVD?
