I really don't like these subjective kind of polls, But Ali is 65 years old today. Happy Birthday Ali, the greatest sportsman ever lived! Notjust for his achievement in sport, but his political views and activities...
Muhammed Ali was a great fighter, probably the best ever. But somehow I think "Greatest Sportsman" entails a lot more than just one facet of sports, don't y'all? I think to be "Greatest Sportsman" title should go to someone who is great at lots, if not all, sports. And I ain't got no ideas for that one!! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Exactly, this is why the title of "Greatest Sportsman" always goes to one of the above. It is nearly impossible to be great in multiple sports Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, as I mentioned in the OP, this is all subjective. The reason I like Ali, because he stood up for his political views (later to be viewed as correct) and he didn't hesitate to put them first before his carrier. In other word, INSPIRATION. That makes him the greatest. I also could vote for Armstrong, coming back from figthing cancer and achieving an improbable run of wins... So I would say just being good at a sport doesn't make you the greatest unless you overcome some adversity. By the way, who is Hendry?? Also John and James, don't give me a list, just pick one and tell me why.... P.S.: Tiger is the best golfer, but he gets shitload of money and the girl and he doesn't even have to sweat for it! That run where he flamed down the sideline and up the ramp out of sight was awesome, that sevently yard run was over in about five seconds.

Not even a cheer for Lance Armstrong? Definitely the most well conditioned athlete in a goddamned long time, one of the mentally toughest, fiercest competitors, unparalleled stamina and endurance in practice. I believe he could have won the Tour for the rest of his life.
