Proofreading your homework assignments is an unacceptable reason to post on sciforum. Your school should have after-class workshops or learning resources where you can go to learn how to write. If you have a scientific question that you would like us to debate related to your assignment, then that would be a valid topic to post. "gramtical" is spelled "grammatical." Learn how to write first. I strongly advise everyone on sciforum not to respond to riku_124s future postings until he learns the ropes. And don't get sidetracked into responded to the shallowness of his posted essays. The first essay about Hitler and WWII could lead any one of us off into a hundred tangents because it was so ridiculously shallow with a hundred invitations to jump in and fill all the numerous gaps. Why get sucked into this. If you a triggered by something that arouses your interest, then post a seperate thread. Don't feed leaches, else why not we all do the same? A little late here, but maybe for the next time. I'm not well versed in history, but I am said to be pretty good in composition. So here goes: First plan what you want to say, i.e. jot down all the points that you feel answer the question asked in the essay. You might want to use index cards for this. Then group the points into categories. e.g. you might want to group by political, social, economic reasons for the war. Then refine those concepts within the group. Do you see patterns that are interesting and might tell a story on its own? Do you see where you need dates, names places etc to be included? Write down everything you can think of, no matter what. This is where index cards are handy. You can always cut back if there is too much information. Now you have the skeleton of your essay. Start with an introduction. A lot of people go with quotes or one line that represents their viewpoint of the essay. A brief introduction to the status of the world before the war might be appropriate, a sort of build up. Then divide your categories (which you made earlier) into order of importance based on your opinion of their significance. Write a brief paragraph explaining each category of points. Each paragraph should have one line to introduce the concept of that paragraph and one line that is a summation of that paragraph. Go on until you finish all categories. Then write an overall conclusion summing up all the categories and your opinion of their relative contributions. Look for repeated uses of some words (we all have favorites we tend to overuse). Check for spelling, grammer, syntax. See if you can't cut down on words by refining sentences. Try to be as concise as possible. One good way to try that is to see if you can't say the same things in half the amount of words. Read it to yourself aloud or record and play it back. See if it flows smoothly or there are abrupt changes in the flow of the composition. Best of luck.

But in informal circles such as this it's a quite acceptable solution to the awkward problem of "his or her." Knowing when it's not acceptable is part of my skill. Only if you are going to write, "I think ", and say the cycles make researchers "unhappy". Riku - If you think fraggle implied that you need a typing tutor, you need an english tutor- I don't really know what the standards are for essays written for the tenth grade but I would imagine this would be called cheating if anyone suggests alternative wordings. If people just give you style comments, and you implement them, maybe that is ok.
No, teachers usually encourage you to get others to read over and edit your work, espacially long essays.

when i was in year 10(comparable to 10th grade i think) we were encouraged to use the thesauruses with which we were provided, how is this any different?
This isn't about using tools available to everyone to write your papers. The problem isn't with someone reading the paper, and giving constructive criticism, as is obvious from this thread, and my previous responses - hooray for everyone. The problem is not with someone explaining the economic ramifications of the treaty of versailles to give a person places to look, or places to start, regarding the essay, or circling phrases and asking for a re-write, suggesting various approaches that have worked in the past - that is what the teacher is going to do anyway. The problem would be created by getting someone to re-write a paper, while the student processes neither the information, nor the concepts required to present the information. This would probably be a bad thing. If a student were to use the tutoring in earnest to improve their writing ability, it would probably be a good thing, similar to taking an advanced essay-writing course. Also, if the teacher is truly inept or overloaded this may be the ONLY way to get any decent instruction at all (as fraggle pointed out). Just don't use the words written by someone else, and believe in your mind that it is fully "your" essay, and not a collaboration. I don't really care, by the way, it is not my place to judge whether someone should or should not do any of that, I just find it interesting.
i think its ok to give people pointers of where to look and then let them make up their own mind of how important it is and what to write about, thats what my teachers do
