The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrorists acts, Pearl Harbour was a military act!
That was an attack of military on civilian, 160,000 civilians!!!!!
Pearl Harbour was an attack of Japans Navy against the American Navy stationed there!!
America is a racist country and ye think ye are better than other races, of course if the americans get killed then you go and kill 160,000 Japanese civilians

    Welcome to SciForums, IG32...
Um, America is multi-racial. But overall, I guess you're correct... it is unfortunate that the rest of the world's population can't be pure of heart like every person that was born in Ireland, right?

sorry I don't have time to read all the posts but the problem is we dropped da bomb after Japan is about to surrender. We shouldn't have dropped it or we should have dropped it sooner.

very emotive. hiroshima was an act of war. just because the countries were at war does not mean mass destruction is an option. in that case so is raping women killing children. when the Japanese attacked pearl harbour, they attacked a militry position (as suggested earlier). when the US dropped the bomb, it was terrorism, or if you prefer and believe that an elected government can not commit an act of terror, state sponsored terrorisem. its just semantics. i read earlier tht because of the dropping of the bomb, the war ended, well, in that case the middle east dilema is sorted, they too should have access to nukes and the end justifies the means. remember, before shouting maniacal arabs, remeber, the US is the ONLY government/body of people who has used a weapon of mass destruction.. the US has the most nukes and is most vociferous in having other countries not make/test nukes. remember, most nukes in the world today are a product of US/Russia cold war. what did you expect would happen to the nukes when the cold war was over, russia sold it, as will any nation to feed its people and create more defence.

i read earlier about the bombing of the afghans, i wonder how they feel about this discussion. i read in the first post that bombing afganistan was an act of war. hmmmm. lets see:

Afghanistan was a very poor country geting on with things, US has war against Russia, needs allies to fight russia, trains AND arms the Mujahiddin (freedom fighters) to fight in the mountains. on land, due to this war and the bleeding of the afghanistan nation, there is chaos, warlords take over and abuse the rights of public, esp women. a bunch of guys (Talibs - which means student) who were studying in Madressas (islamic schools) stand up for the people. slowly they become stronger with more support. slowly the warlords start to join them. AND of course, the americans come in. they see this new force and decide to arm and train the now-Taliban. Osama, too, i'm afraid you'll have to admit at some point, a well known and admitted fact, was trained by the US. now the talibs are empowered, american training, american weapons. suddenl;yt he US/Russian war is over. america runs back home, leaving a land, afghanistan, ravished. the talibs, now empowered take over. the afghani people have a worst nightmare than the poverty they had witnessed before. note: talibans are mainly now arabs as is Osama. NOT afgani.

afghani people are over run by the Talibans (strong now because of trainign and weapons), there is no rule of law, it is imposed onthem. there is no democracy, there is no accountability.

9/11- the deed is done. America is an enraged animal and cries for vengence. who better to crucify than the crazy afganis, the taliban, the enemy, they are all one, "crusade" against muslims,
    'war against terrrorism".

in US there is democracy, the american people allow their congress to attack afganistan, not just taliban, but afganistan, with its civilians who were opressed by the taliban empowered by the americans, but who cares, 'collateral damage'.

america, she wants to bomb iraq, sudan etc. nuke the f--kers, the ends justify the means, it;ll end this war.

will it? after Hirosheema, the war vs. Japan ended, but the nuke war started. whats worst? when will america drop her next weapon on a civilian population? 'we should have nuked vietnam"... why? what business had america in vietnam any way? what business has she in Saudi? you know Osama's main objective has always been getting the US out of saudiand the royal family too, not war against all westerners. why is the US there? lets be honest, to get cheap oil. by keeping the royals in power, she can control the oil; good economics, bad policy. its another vietnam on a larger scale.

these are questions that plague me, as these are situations taht are responsible for the terror and the creation of terrorists in the world. if hte US interferes everywhere, remember you are dealing with humans, their offspring, friends, allies will remember and the hatred will grow.

    THings to think on:
fact: US's depends greatly on its most vibrant industry; defence'
fact: without wars and buyers of defence product, economy will suffer
fact: US controls/or tries to control governments of smaller nations through economics
fact: They eventually turn against her and use US weapons against her. case in point : Iraq, Afganistan etc.
fact: the US is still producing Nukes.
fact: US has projected a war against Muslims (whether you cloak it or not)
fact: US doesnt want them to have nukes, but is actively involved in their wars where there is predominantly Muslim... iraq, palestine etc.
fact: the world knows now, from the terror of hirosheema, that the only deterrant available against the US is nukes, the fanatics are fanatics anyway.

what do youdo with a fanatical government intent on meddling, creating hatred for her people, who, i must admitt, generally have no idea whats going on as they're busy watching 57 other channels and think Fox/Cnn is God's word.

Unfortunately, i feel, terrorism will increase, not end. as did the creation of weapons of mass destruction. it grew, not ended with the war. While there is so much inequity in this world to manipulate by stronger parties, the oppressed will fight back. whether with suicide bombs or with burnign effigees. while the manipulation continues, its fruits shall borne by us all.

no, not in an arab country, just have been following whats been happening quite closely. i almost lost family in 9/11 as my brother in law was on his way to the WTC that morning...i was angry and wanted to know why. its not enough to blame the first person you suspect, thats why there's rule of law....

and then i want to know who/what is actually to blame and why

The American soldiers, sailors, marines and aviators who survived an invasion of Japan that never happened (though it would have been necessary to force Japan to cease its burning, raping, pillaging of, and otherwise muderous mayhem against the Chinese, the Koreans, the Americans, the Indonesians, the Pacific Islanders, the Vietnamese, and others), and their respective families, friends, acquaintences and most of their fellow citizens, didn't consider the dropping of the Bombs to be a "bad call".

I imagine that what anyone today thinks about the dropping of those bombs would be considered irrelevent by any one of them still alive.

As for what the Japanese of that time still alive toda might think, I cannot say. Nor am I terribly concerned about finding out.

Such is life, and such is war. And such is what can happen to anyone who starts something they cannot finish to their own liking.

I'll bite! Someone'll have to take the side of sanity, don't you think, Mr. G.?

Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was as evil as any deeds in history. There was no sane reason for doing so, as any historian of any worth will tell anyone. The Japanese were on the brink of surrender already and had made overtures to the Russians that they wished to negotiate a surrender. At that point the Japanese were all out of navy and air force and things were lookng real grim for their army, not to mention that their homeland was being bombed to splinters. The problem was, that they made the overtures of surrender to the Russians. The Americans didn't want that to happen, no way. The Russians had beaten the German sixth army, which was Germany's top professional army, and beat the American's into Berlin to capture Hitler's headquarters and all the trophies that went with it. If the Japanese surrendered to the Russians then the Americans wouldn't have had any booty, or glory. No way they were going to let that happen.

Right up there with Germany, Japan and Stalinist Russia, who each killed Millions, no doubt.

It's easy to look back at the prosecutions of WWII snd say how things should have been done. That's not nearly as difficult as having to actually live the prosecutions upon which your decisions would be based.

Surely you aren't claiming to be a "historian of any worth"?

Asguard, go fuck yourself. How dare you compare me to Osama bin Laden, a mass murder, who killed my fellow Americans.

By the way, next time you talk to a Jew you don't like call him "Hitler".

P.S. The war wasn't over. Why do you think Kokura was the city below Hiroshima on the US target list? It was the Pittsburg of Japan, which was running at full capacity to prepare arms for the defense of Kyushu.

Learn you're history before you try to argue - or better yet manipulate it to your own opinions.

No, I wasn't laying claim to being an historian at all. I'm just an ordinary fella who likes to read a lot. My point about historians of worth is that recording history as accurately and honestly as is possible is the foundation from which future students will learn and such recording process should be a vocation to the ones who undertake that duty.

The way most modern history is written is intended to make one group of people look good at the expense of some other group. And that's not really history, it's propaganda.

Yes, no matter what, almost all of history is bias. But it is fairly accurate enough in the events, and that is what is most important.

Anyways, jumping into this argument late, the second time the US A-bombed Japan was terrorism. I believe the first time was completely valid.

Both attacks were justified. The Japaneese government hadn't seriously considered surrendure until Nagasaki got it.
