So what do you think'll happen, and how good do you think the movie will be? Post your thoughts here and fill in the poll. Remember, as of press time episode 2 is eight days away.
I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan but I have some serious doubts about this film. I've said this before, but didnt anyone else learn their lesson from The Phantom Menace? The clips and hype may look and sound great, but the film could easily suck big time. So thats what I'm voting for
Yes, from The Phantom Menace I learned that when Lucas makes something complicated the mainstream never gets it. The only thing the average person is capable of noticing is the surface level plot, Jar Jar and the pod race. Hopefully Episode II will have similar complexities so that like Ep I it gets better with each inspection.
It will be a Star Wars film, and all that implies It's going to be dazzling and brilliant. I second Hoth's comments. Besides, Yoda with a lightsabre. That's worth admission price in itself. I'm there. thanx, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
BAD FUCKING NEWS. Entertainment Weekly gave AOTC the same FUCKING grade it gave the Phantom Menace. A C+. Find the latest magazine and read it for yourself. These guys may have their worlds revolving around celebrities but when it comes to movies they seem to know what they're talking about (Lord of the Rings=A). This really, really sucks. Is it at all possible for anyone to make a good, modern science fiction movie???? We'll all band together and create a new company called Ultraviolet or some spiffy name like that dedicated to making attractive, fun, and engaging science fiction movies that not only the fans like but everyone likes, like Lord of the Rings or even the Empire Strikes Back (directed by the same fellow who directed The Day the Earth Stood Still-an excellent movie in its own right). What is so hard about doing something right? Has Lucas been hit by a fucking meteor or something, or is he just incapable of making a decent movie? I hate to say this before going out and seeing the movie but odds are that the guys at EW are right. Fellow nerds we've been fucked again Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I only get mad when it matters. We are definitely FUCKED. Again. Time to go AWOL on the nerd ranks methinks...
No, I think the reviewers screwed up then. AOTC looks great. Maybe not great like Shakespeare or Homer are considered great, but it looks like damn good fun. And that's what I see movies for, fun.
I see movies for fun too, adam, but it's always an ultra bonus when the movies are actually good, like Memento, Lord of the Rings, 2001(debateable, tiassa must watch it a lot heheh). AOTC will be fun but it's just the same goddamn mediocre movie that TPM was. That's what bothers me.
Star Wars isn't sci-fi, it's myth, the use of some sci-fi setting is irrelivent. It should try to be a good sci-fi film, it should try to be a good myth. Anyhow, try this AOTC review: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainment/film/reviews/star_wars_attack_of_the_clones.html - 10 out of 10 stars "It's a deliciously complex plot which combines political and personal crises." "The plot is gripping and beautifully handled. The action sequences are simply astounding. And the acting and characterization, often the weakest point of the franchise, are better than ever." And this as well: http://www.empireonline.co.uk/features/events/starwars_episode2/review.shtm - 5 out of 5 stars "In 1999, this very magazine awarded The Phantom Menace four stars. Going by that rationale, Attack of the Clones deserves, oh, twenty. Pity we can only give five. OK, Clones isn't the greatest film ever. It's not even the greatest Star Wars film ever, falling short of close relative The Empire Strikes Back. Yet it outstrips TPM completely, gives Return of the Jedi a run for its money and Steven Spielberg thinks it's better than A New Hope." The key to why junk magazines like Entertainment Weekly give bad reviews is that, as that 2nd review says, "non-fans might get horribly lost." That, of course, is why the media didn't like TPM also... they didn't understand it.
(quotation marks-meaning that we'll just have to see what happens) Welcome to sciforums Radek, what part of NYC are you from? I used to live in Brooklyn until I was six and then I moved *up here*. Scifi.com gave a favorable review but I don't have the link because I'm lazy. Go there, it's on the main page you should be able to find it. The reviewer said it was a good star wars movie but it sucked normalmoviewise.
