What if the Islamofascists win? Not just in Iraq, but even in the US. There's a new book out, `Prayers for the Assassin" by Robert Ferrigno that tries to answer that question. It is set 35 years in the future, when the United States has been transformed into the Islamic Republic of America

But don't worry, there is still talk radio:
As for freedom of religion and sexual preference:
    As for feminism:
Of course on the plus side, one character says:
    `
I haven't read the book, I just came across the review and thought it might make an interesting topic for conversation.. Comments?

Sounds like the paranoiac babbling of a moronic xenophobe to me.

Silly, "Dance with the devil and the devil dont change, the devil changes you." Islamists would become American and you would have fat Muslim Americans instead of fat Xian Americans eating Mac-ers – and that'd be that.

I have many Muslim friends that go out and drink and do everything that everyone non-Muslim does (including eating pork) some are Atheist and some not. They have all changed because their parents moved out of the ME and to the West.

I says it once and I'll says it again .. education education education - you wanna get rid of Islam? Then educate people about religion and get rid of all monotheisms.

This is interesting but it reminds me of the Red Scare tactics the US used on us all when we were terrified of communism. (Recall Red Dawn!)Now the bogeyman is Islam. I think Christian fundamentalism is a far greater threat here than anything a perpetually terrified American government can cook up.

No such thing as a "atheist Muslim". It's like saying "a smart president". Opposites of each other. I think what you mean is a person from the middle east. Not all people from the middle east are muslim. Some are jews, christians, atheist, devil worshippers, etc. Some even love the US of A.

Yeah, I guess it depends on what you mean by Muslim. Some people think of it more as a ME cultural thing and therefore can be a “Muslim” culturally but not believe in God(s). But he is also Persian and not any old Persian but a true blood Persian (his forefathers were not conquered by the Mongolians - according to him anyhow

So it’s all really just perspective and identification.

No, I didn't buy it. As I said, I just came across the review and thought it sounded interesting. I may check it out of the library, if they have it.

Before you dismiss the book out of hand and repeal the first ammendment, maybe you should look into the book a bit. It seems to me it's not simply a slam on Islam. It even gives a somewhat plausable explaination for Islam's accendency:
Regarding the not a slam on Islam part:

    And how about this review:

I think I will read this book.

Probably by 2100 we'll have reached a point were life will pretty much be eternal. So I would assume that by 2040 the push will be well on it's way. When people have eternal life there is very little encourage them to become religious unless that religion offers something that is of value to the person. I'm sure that Islam offers something of value to some people - but really, not many people convert to Islam outside of a Muslim back ground. If anything Xianity is much better equipped to sell itself to the masses as it has no problem morphing and changing with the times.

So I wouldn't worry about it - really.

That's the difference between our cultures. We're confident that ours is strong enough to withstand merely verbal attacks. In fact, we believe that challenges, even of the most ridiculous nature, make us stronger because they force us to constantly think about what we believe and make sure we believe it because it is reasonable, not because somebody wrote it in a book and got a bunch of people to follow him unquestioningly. If you think you're right we won't take you seriously unless you're prepared to convince us by reason, not by authority or faith, which are merely emotional arguments.

As for buying the book, it sounds entertaining. A lot of dystopian sci-fi is interesting, because it does exactly what I described above: forces us to consciously think about what we believe is right. Look at the popularity of "1984" and "Brave New World."

The entire principle of freedom of speech can be encapsulated in one sentence:

    "Sunlight is the best disinfectant."
That's a good question. Personally I think the term is a bit of an oxymoron. Fascism is in essence the subjugation of the individual to the state, with strong central control of life. Aberrations like the Taliban notwithstanding, Muslim civilization by its nature (like Judaic civilization) does not tend to grow strong central authorities, and Muslims (like religious Jews) feel very passionately that the individual is supreme. Their societies generally don't evolve anything analogous to a Pope or a Supreme Patriarch or a Dalai Lama.

To allow oneself to be ruled by religion is not the same as to allow oneself to be ruled by politics, and fascism is all about politics.

When both the religion and the politics are abhorrent to someone, I suppose it's easy for them to miss that distinction.

Intresting sounding book, although I wouldnt read more from it other than the quotes you sent. It might suprise you to know that Muslums do believe that Islam will rule the world and there is prophecy to support that. Muslims believe that (as prophecisied to us from Prophet Muhammed) that Muslims will be oppressed all over the world and the the whole muslim world will be conquered up to Mecca and Medina (in Saudi Arabia) from the non muslims. (Even the Iraq war was prophecisied.) Then with the help of Jesus returning (who will be the leader of the muslims) he will aid in the defeat of the world leader at that time who is the Antichrist and then he will only accept Islam from the remaining inhabitates on earth. Then all of the crosses from churches will be destroyed along with all of the pigs. Then the whole world would be muslim for some generations. This will happen right before the end of the world and we are already in the middle stages of these prophecies.
