However, in reality estimates indicate that immigration costs Sweden at least 40 to 50 billion Swedish kroner every year, probably several hundred billions, and has greatly contributed to bringing the Swedish welfare state to the brink of bankruptcy. An estimated cost of immigration of 225 billion Swedish kroner in 2004, which is not unlikely, would equal 17.5% of Sweden's tax income that year, a heavy burden in a country which already has some of the highest levels of taxation in the world. At the same time, the number of rape charges in Sweden has quadrupled in just above twenty years. Rape cases involving children under the age of 15 are six times as common today as they were a generation ago. Resident aliens from Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia dominate the group of rape suspects. Lawyer Ann Christine Hjelm, who has investigated violent crimes in one court, found that 85 per cent of the convicted rapists were born on foreign soil or by foreign parents. With any under educated and impoverished population comes all the crime with it. Whether it's poor whites on meth or unemployed under educated Arabs in Europe. In my area local American minorities top the crime charts as they have for a century. Same problems with them as well; Under educated and poor.
I see D'ster is an equal opportunity racist. He ran into too much opposition trying to bash immigrants in the USA, so now he's trying to do it as a surrogate in somebody else's country without even asking whether they'd appreciate his help. Sweden is the quintessential socialist "paradise." The original models in the Soviet bloc didn't work out so well. People who achieve financial security but only at a minimal level of prosperity and at the cost of their souls end up losing their interest in procreation. The populations in all those countries were shrinking. If Perestroika hadn't happened, they'd all be collapsing under the weight of their pension payouts. Many of them are anyway, the disciplined ones like the Czech Republic who try their best to honor the commitments of the old regimes. Scandinavia avoided that trap by rejecting despotism and becoming a set of true socialist democracies, complete with scrupulously enforced basic freedoms like dissent and at-will emigration. Many of their most creative people nonetheless felt stifled by the inability to enjoy the fruits of their own labor due to confiscatory taxes. Luminaries like Ingmar Bergman emigrated in frustration to nations which from their perspective are absolute tax havens, which from our perspective evoke peals of laughter because one of them is the USA. The loss of top income producers and the drop in the birthrate that always accompanies prosperity, even if it isn't quite as dire as in Romania, is causing the same problem in Sweden that it is going to cause here as the Boomers retire. Not enough kids to support the fraudulent pyramid scheme of social security. So they're doing the same thing we are. Importing workers. If you can't get American kids to do unskilled labor for $5.50 an hour, you can imagine what the labor shortage must be like in Sweden, where everyone is promised a university degree and a desk job at birth. The working mothers are getting their toilets scrubbed and the gastarbeiters are paying their taxes so the Swedes can retire. D'ster says the problem with this is culture clash. Entire populations are moving in from countries where women have gotten no respect for centuries. And that the immigrants are taking more out of the system than they're putting in. This Libertarian says the problem is the system itself. Any accountant, lawyer, psychologist, or game theorist can see the fundamental flaw in a social "security" system that pays benefits to the original members out of the contributions of new members, instead of from the non-existent profits on the invested funds. If we tried to set up one of those it would be called a Ponzi Scheme in public, not dressed up with a government-speak euphemism. It relies on infinite growth, something the human race recently decided is not compatible with the comfortable post-industrial lifestyle we'd like to establish on this planet. And that's just the most topical example of what goes wrong when you turn your life over to the government. Governments are just plain stupid. They are the employer of last resort, so they should be limited to jobs that don't require a lot of brains like trash collection. Allowing a government to centrally manage an economy by taking over entire industries--key industries--like education, health care, and charity, is a formula for disaster. If Sweden were not a welfare state, all those immigrants would not want to live there in the first place.
Getting rid of poverty would be a significant first step. In this area at least foreign immigrants, legal or not, prove to be far harder workers than homegrown poor.

I noticed that Chinese of low and high education come to AU and work very hard. As a matter of fact - a stroll downtown Sydney any night of the week will see that ~90% of the people working are Chinese. Are they the bottom of the SS pyramid? If so, is it a bad thing to have them immigrate? Maybe it’s a matter of where the immigrants are from. Most all of the Chinese I know work hard, try to assimilate (learn English etc…) and also maintain a unique Chinatown that is very welcoming to non-Chinese. Lastly, how does the SS pyramid hypothesis explain Japan? They really have low immigration and low birth rates but they do ok for themselves.
