What is the source of most (Or all) Human suffering? If you know what it is how can it be destroyed?

I was going to ask how to minimise suffering while remaining alive - but that would just be a vegetable state, wouldn't it? So instead...

What is the purpose of meaning?

The purpose of 'meaning' in one sense is that it is a word and the purpose of all words is communication, the purpose of this particular word is also communication, see below:

    from wikipedia

    "Meaning can be:

Meaning (linguistic), meaning which is communicated through the use of language.
Meaning (non-linguistic), extra-linguistic meaning (intentional communication without the use of language), and natural meaning, where no intentions are involved at all.
Meaning as definition, interpretation, or semantics. "

Illuminating therapy one major problem here in norge is that norweigans have no "queueing culture". When I first came here I witnessed people cutting in front of me after I had waited 15 minutes (I was so shocked I couldn't react). In the past five years I have noticed an improvenment. My theory is that crowds of people, and thereby queues are a relatively recent phenomenomen in norway and therefore nordmen are still learning how it is done. My advice is, talk to them and tell them how it is done.

    Dear Tor,

I asked this question once on another forum, but I'm wanting a second opinion:

Humans obviously need to breath to survive, but the actual method of getting air to the lungs is what I have questions about. It's obvious (due to the fact that people get tracheotomys) that air does not have to be inhaled through the mouth or nose.

That being said, if I were to go to a surgeon, and have two gigantic 6 inch in diameter holes cut into my chest, and sew my windpipe closed, does that mean I wouldn't have to breath any more?

absolutely correct, you would NOT have to breathe anymore, as with two 6 inch holes in your chest, you'd be dead.

All right, I have a serious question that may be a stumper. (The NetBSD thing actually is bothering me, incidentally, but it's a public access Unix system whose only admin is on vacation right now, so it's out of my hands.)

Occasionally in my waking hours I'll get the same sensation that I experience just before a dream becomes lucid, as though I'm about to wake up. I of course never do, since I'm already conscious, but it makes me wonder what's going on upstairs. Any thoughts?

http://www.web-us.com/lucid/luciddreamingFAQ.htm#In what stage of sleep does Lucid Dreaming occur

This will explain what happens while conscious even though it is concerned with inducing the lucid state while asleep.

"2.4. How does the Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream (WILD) technique work?
It works by remaining conscious until you start dreaming. The Lucidity Institute also first presented this technique, but it is not easy if you don't have a clue what to do. But it is quite easy and effective if you do it right. Again, you need to sleep 5-6 hours before trying this. This is because you don't dream much the first 5 hours, it is mostly non-REM sleep. You enter REM a lot faster after 5-6 hours with sleep, and you don't go down to stage 3 and 4 as you do when you first go to bed. The problem is remaining conscious until your dream start. Many strange things may happen when you remain conscious until the REM-period starts. The first thing you see may be Hypnagogic Imagery. It is a pattern, like the one you see when you press your fingers against your closed eyelids. Remember that this is hypnotic, and getting too involved with them will induce unconsciousness. Just let it flow, don't get too involved and don't suppress them either. The next thing you may experience is Hypnagogic Sounds. It may be as real as the sounds you hear in waking reality, but they are nothing to be afraid of. It is a good indicator that the REM-period is right around the corner. Just don't let these sounds scare you. If you start to experience Abstract Thoughts, the logical part of your brain is falling asleep and you are not far from losing consciousness. You might be lying in bed thinking about a friend and the hypnagogic imagery starts and you see your friend's face. You have also worked a stressful day so you start to remember stocking the shelves at work. Soon you are thinking that you are putting cans of food on the shelves with pictures of your friend on them. All this might seems perfectly normal. But it's not logical. What you need to do is try thinking logical, do some math or start over again. Tactile Sensations can feel like you are paralyzed and high-voltage painless electricity is jolting through your body. You may experience these vibrations and find yourself leaving your body or having a Lucid Dream. But remember that all this is nothing to fear, it happens every night, whether you are consciously aware of it or not. Now that you know what you might experience when trying to consciously enter the REM-period there is another problem we need to conquer. And that is losing consciousness, a very common problem that is rather easy to overcome."

I often feel like I'm entering this state while awake, usually when tired, I sort of do begin to dream while awake.

It's difficult to explain in terms of sensation, though in such a respect it is vaguely reminiscent of cognitive dissonance. I think what happens when I'm dreaming is that I gradually transition into lucidity. A certain level of my thought process begins treating my situation as though it was a dream, and I'll peripherally acknowledge (and duly ignore) external stimuli such as the radio turning on, someone walking past my room, or myself tossing and turning in bed. If I wake up instead of becoming lucid (or perhaps become lucid and immediately wake up upon realizing I'm asleep, which seems to be an almost reflexive behavior), I'll often retrospectively realize that I heard these sounds or felt these things while I was sleeping. During this transition, I'll often take advantage of a limited level of lucidity by passively deciding to "skip chapters" in the dream. A helicopter ride to an island, for example, may last a few seconds before I cut to the landing, having given it about as much thought as I give scratching an itch on my head, and without realizing yet that I am actually in a dream.

If you've ever seen that episode of the X-Files where Scully and Mulder keep living out the same day until they get it right by avoiding being killed in a bombing, the feeling is a lot like Mulder mumbling to himself, "He's got a bomb he's got a bomb he's got a bomb..." but not being able to completely realize and do something about it.
