Okay, I'm gonna say The Mars Volta, who I've been listening to since September or so, even though there's a chance that you all already know of them, since they've been at least on VH1, at least once. I'm sorta sheltered, so I haven't heard mention of them in mainstream culture since last summer. I'm also gonna say Madredeus, in case Varda or anyone else hasn't mentioned them.
Of all the bands put forth (that I actually tracked down and listened to), I liked Os Mutantes the best.
I saw the Mars Volta play a club show for about a hundred people in 2001, I believe. I cannot say that I am a fan, but it was an interesting show. Seven songs over about two hours with lots of extended jamming.
Mostly my music collection consists of concert band pieces, especially Holst and Philip Sparke, soundtracks, jazz like mingus, swing/bigband, podcasts and a lot from a few good well known bands like Coldplay, U2, Dave Matthews, and Pink Floyd. Most of my stuff you've never heard of, and probably dont care to hear. but for the record, one of my favorite songs, called Not Yet by Michael Camilo, was found by my boyfriend by accident, but it remains one of my favorite songs to date.
