What makes you focus on race? I read "primitive" as "unsophisticated" or "elemental". Your choice of definitions speaks to your mindset, not Avatar's. :m: Peace.
He's saying that rap is primitive. Most of the people that perform rap are of afro-caribbean decent, and he is implying that, because their music if primitive, that they are primitive, which is entirely and utterly untrue. Thus, he is racist or of a similarly deplorable ideology. Kentucky's main spectator sport is Football or Basketball. We're more famous for our horse races (Kentucky Derby, anyone?) that for nascar. NASCAR isn't even done in Kentucky. I think you have us confused with nearby indiana or with faraway florida. :bugeye:
I don't care who performs rap or hip-hop, whether they are eskimo or martians, the music is primitive. And, if that by definition makes the performers primitive, so be it. But that is not my definition and I've hardly seen any black person in my life, so I don't think I can be labeled racist. But, if that makes you, Hapsy, sleep better, you may call me racist, I really don't care.
Rap, the art itself may or may-not be liked by individuals. That does not mean that you can debate whether it's an art form or not. When it originated, from Where it came, and How you percieve it are not scales to decide whether Rap/Hip-Hop is a gener of music or no...
Yep Zarklephaser, you should KNOW that by now! @ Avatar, you are indeed awesome Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Of Course. Only when the lyrics have a point that can relate with everyone and not just to minorities.
If 'rap' is in the genre of music, then we need to create a new word to describe Bach, Schubert, Liszt, Rachmaninov, et cetera. Musique, perhaps?
They say Blackmetal is the devil's music. Pppfff. I say it's rap. Hell is me and fiddy showing me his nine holes and me being forced to here him poetically beat some words out to Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 overlay.
This thread is waaaaaay to long for me to bother reading (sorry). I just wanted to say - How can you claim that rap doesn't have rhythm? It's one of the most rhythm reliant genres in recent history.
Like I think I said once, rap or monotonic singing, is just adapting a polytonic instrument, like using a guitar as a drum, say. No big deal, but it does get a bit tedious for my senses, that rap stuff I did like the orig stuff though - you know, that DJ guy from the West Coast. Most everything since has been fairly derivative, I tend to think you can only sing a one-note song so many ways before its done to death.
Rap is music. You don't have to like it, but it has rhythm which I think is really all that is required to make music. Rap has been existence a lot longer than most of the music we listen to today, in fact I believe its on par with classical music give or take a few years. Sure it has altered and changed form, but its still music. Rhythm is a very important aspect of the African and black culture as far as music and dance are concerned so it definately has cultural roots. You can call it primitive if you want, but try to stand up and do it, then it doesn't seem so easy anymore.
