The TV's in Mexico are telling them to rush into America, they are infiltrating and cutting up our country. While yes I don't blame them for wanting a better way of life, but America is like a life boat that holds 100, and we are shoving 500 onboard, its just not gonna float. They bring disease, they spend our social services money. They are used to a corrupt government and thus are more likely to let our government become more corrupt and less American. I have nothing against them, I like alot of hispanic people, I say they should stay in Mexico and change things down there, before its too late here!
How could a corrupt government be any worse than one run by greedy, amoral, hubris-driven imbeciles? The Mexicans also bring much-needed labor. Our little town was too far north to have much of an immigrant community. We absolutely could not get any of the local kids to do traditional kid-work like mowing the lawn or helping out on household projects, even though we pay ten bucks an hour which is more than most grownups make where we live. (The cost of living is pretty low.) They all think they're going to grow up to be investment bankers, even though not one of them can make change for a dollar without a calculator. Suddenly the Mexican immigrants pushed further north and we have some. They fall all over themselves with gratitude to do yard work and cleanup for ten bucks an hour. They work harder than anyone I've ever seen, they're scrupulously honest, they're respectful, and they're always in a good mood--which is kind of nice for somebody who's right there in your back yard. And they don't bring disease, that's bullshit. AIDS started here and is being carried back to Mexico, not vice versa. There are as many ignorant American Christian parents rebelling against TB and smallpox vaccinations for their kids as immigrant families. As for social services money, don't get this Libertarian started on how our government has gotten too big for its britches and started pissing on the Constitution seventy years ago. Social services are simply not a valid function of the U.S. government without a couple of Constitutional amendments. Private and religious charities have a lot more discretion in how they distribute the money the collect--because they can't throw their donors in jail if they disagree with their policies and stop donating. Immigrants are also propping up our social security system because they have larger families. In case you haven't noticed, the birth rate among Americans of native ancestry has dropped below replacement level. There won't be anybody to pay for your retirement if these people go home. Agribusiness, which forced most American family farmers out of business, is also a major cause of the poverty in Mexico. A lot of Mexican farms went bankrupt in the 1980s and 90s because they couldn't compete with our automated high-tech farms. The farm hands couldn't find jobs, so they came up here to take the remaining low-tech farming jobs that our own kids wouldn't do even if the alternative was starvation. If you want to talk about a few hundred million Chinese and Indians with university degrees putting American computer programmers and chemical engineers out of work because they know how to spell "Q.A.", you might be able to make a point. But unskilled labor is pretty generic. There's a bigger demand for it than Americans are willing to fill (unless you want to pay dishwashers and ditch diggers $25 an hour) so the Mexicans are taking up the slack.
anyone that isnt a native american is an immigrant, so noone but them should even be thinking of bitching about foreigners stinking up their country.
Theres no such thing as a 'native american', for the simple reason that 'America' as a concept is entirely the creation of northern europeans. It would be more appropriate to refer to them as indigenous or aboriginal peoples. In Canada we call them 'first nations'.
I don't know where up North you live, and it might just be a northern thing, but down here in Texas, myself and most everyone else my age busts their balls working. Currently, I'm a property manager for three of my dad's office buildings, and I can vouch for the fact that, without Mexicans, my job would be a lot tougher. As odd as this sounds, Mexicans congregate at a resteraunt a few miles away to be hired for labor. All I have to do is drive up, pick up a couple Mexican workers, and go do my rounds with the substantial aid of the Mexicans. If you pay them $6 an hour, they're happy, but I usually start at 6 bucks and go up if they show good work ethic. Their help is invaluble to me, and, contrary to stereotypical beliefs, a lot of them can speak remedial English, and most of them are very nice guys. AmishRakeFight
Well ... I think they can take over if they want - they can take over my responsibilities of paying taxes and being recognized as an honest American. In fact - let the illegals come as they please and take any job they are given and then slap them with a real tax-paying Americans tax bill and let the American retain his or her payments into the social security system and who knows ... maybe penalize the American by letting him or her draw on it early and ask the illegal to worka little harder or maybe pay a little more to cover for it. Just a thought ...
That's exactly how it works right now. The idea that most immigrant labor consists of guy working under the table for less than minimum wage is a myth; the majority get fake ID cards and social security numbers, and take jobs at regular employers, with normal tax withholdings. Immigrants tend to pay MORE taxes than other comparably-paid workers, because they never file for refunds out of fear that their fake documents will be discovered. And they never collect social security.
Settlers had the qualities of courage and ingenuity to establish a civilization, where before stood wilderness or stone age existence. Immigrants came before. Immigrants have come afterwards. Equating settlers with immigrants is another example of lowering our bar of standards. This popular meme takes us nowhere, but at least people feel better about themselves as a collection of unremarkable consumer units.
