I watched the Oscars last night and was surprised when War of the Worlds won No Oscars. I thought for sure they's win special effects because those were very well done. Any one else disapointed.
Like, not that the Movie was a perfect portail of the book, but it was close enough to be enjoyed and this new version of the movie does actually make the martians look like the Bokk described. So yeah, just a little disapointed.

I liked it. I don't care much for the Oscars though.

Can't say I'm surprized I think Independance day beat WotW to those Oscars a while ago.

I thought the only thing good about this movie was the special effects. Beyond that, it sucked.

The effects were awesome, yes, but it was kind of a disappointment to the book...the only reason I watched the oscars was because of Jon Stewart. I loved the opening....

    "Your host, Steve Martin!"
"Nope, sorry, gotta spend more time with the kids(who have haircuts EXACTLY like martins), you know, so they don't grow up...weird?"
"So, um, your host, David Letterman!"
"Nope, sorry, gotta spend time with Steve Martins Kids, you know, so they don't end up....weird?"
    "Whoopi Goldberg!"
    "Oh hell no..."

and what about batman? that was the best movie this year by far.

crash was funny, but it wasnt that good, and war of the worlds didnt win because tom said dont put every kid in america on ritalin.and that pissed off the drug companies.

but batman should have won best picture and FX and music,i dont think it even got any nominations.

You guys do realize that it is the Actors who vote on the Oscars. What is an entertaining movie to people may not actually be the finest example of cinematography.

War of the Worlds was entertaining, but they really needed a different actor. One who was more likable and less alien than the martians. I mean Jim Carey could have put more realism into it. Hell, slapping a CGI character would have done better.

Atually, it's not the actors who vote for the Oscars. It's members of the Academic Committee who, admittedly, are more often than not ex-actors, but for the mostpart are always industry people.

In any case, quite frankly, War Of The Worlds sucked bigtime. Of course the special effects were good, but seriously people, that doesn't cut it anymore. That should be a given these days.

Nothing was better than the original 50's sciFi classic 'War Of The Worlds' starring Gene Barry. Barry's character and performance was more real and believeable than that of Tom Cruise. Even the original movie's special effects, as crude as they are compared to today's special effects standards, was better. My opinion of course.

I thought "King Kong" deserved the Oscar for FX, but Spielberg's WotW should have won for Sound.
