We don't support that, like many Muslims have said, it pains us to see Iraq violence between Muslims and we condemn it to the largest degree.

I don't think anyone is more against Muslim on Muslim violence than Muslims?

This is all due to America's dividing and encouraging strife in Iraq. There are reports and eye witness accounts that American soldiers bombed the first Shia mosque Al Askariya which started the conflict. The sites which were hit include the grave of prominent saints of Islam like Hazrat Salman Al Farisi, who is revered greatly by Sunni and Shia. I don't believe a Muslim would bomb the grave of his own saint. Read this article for more information:

After Askariya - Al Ahram Weekly

    Peace.

    Very well said my compliments..

You seem to have a talent for looking at facts & reality, unlike some posters here who justify muslim attrocities of today, with the witch burnings & crusades of centuries ago, all religons have moved on from barbarity, islam has remained captured in time, clinging to the barbarity of hundreds if not thousands of years ago.

What i find is sad Oliver, apologists ignore the reality of your shopping list of murders & the religon behind them, but are quite happy to jump on the i hate american bandwagon, are they shallow or what?

My policy is: recognise the bad and recognise the good. It's not like focussing only on the negative side of Islam makes it go away, does it?

    Bomb carnage at Karachi prayers

The attack happened as people took part in evening prayers

At least 47 people have died in a suspected suicide bombing at a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's birth in southern Pakistan.

More than 80 people were injured when the blast ripped apart a wooden stage where religious leaders were sitting.

Tens of thousands of Sunni Muslims had been taking part in evening prayers in Karachi's Nishtar Park at the time.

Angry crowds later went on the rampage in the city, accusing the police of failing to provide adequate security.

Three days of mourning has been declared.

The attack was condemned by Shia leader Allama Hassan Turabi as well as President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

The blast shook the earth... It was like hell

    Mohammad Ehtesham

Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao confirmed the death toll had risen to 47.

He told the BBC the attack appeared to have been carried out by a suicide bomber.

Initial reports suggested the bomb had been planted under the wooden stage, but Mr Sherpao said "investigators have found no crater in the ground under the stage".

"People sitting on the stage were killed which suggests the bomb was carried by someone on the stage," the minister added.

No-one has claimed responsibility for the explosion at what was believed to be the biggest of such events being held in Pakistan.

    Karachi: Volatile metropolis

Karachi has a history of sectarian and ethnic violence, but this is the first time in decades that a religious gathering celebrating the Prophet's birthday has been targeted, the BBC's Zaffar Abbas in Pakistan says.

"The blast shook the earth. It was like hell," Mohammad Ehtesham, 70, told Reuters news agency.

Sunni Muslim leaders taking part in the ceremony were believed to be among the dead.

"I saw body parts everywhere. I saw people collecting body parts and putting them in ambulances," another witness said.

An emergency has been declared at the city's hospitals. Off-duty doctors and paramedics have been called in and appeals are being made for blood.

Twenty-four bodies were reported at one hospital alone.

    'Nothing is working'

Anger at the attack spilt over into violence as hundreds of enraged worshippers took to the streets accusing the authorities of failing to provide adequate security.

They hurled rocks at the security forces who fired shots in the air to try and disperse the crowd. A petrol station as well as cars were burned.

The bomb attack sparked angry scenes in Karachi

Sherbanoo Raza told the BBC her mother had been in her car when it was set alight, along with up to 30 others nearby.

"My mother panicked, she was terrified. She went up to a friend's house nearby," she said.

"It's not even safe enough for her to cross the road and get a cab home. Nothing is working."

The event had been organised by the Sunni organisation Jamaat-e-Ahle Sunnat.

The group draws support from the same Sunni community that lost 29 women and children in a stampede during prayers also marking the Prophet's birthday in a Karachi Islamic centre at the weekend.

    Zephyr,
"47 dead at a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's birth in southern Pakistan"

Can you find anything positive in this?

This is going on 365 days of the year, there is a massive war going on in this religon, they are attacking eachother & the west on a daily basis.

29 dead in a stamped in pakistan last week, once again religon behind it all.

These people need to get there heads out of the koran, there asses out of the mosque, & get to fucking work.

Well i am a muslim and i dont hate gays so perhaps you should change your all statements.

i am not against non muslims being in countries where there is a mulsim majority, whats the problem in that. what i am against is occupation of land belong to someone else. Like i was dead against the iraqi occupation of Kuwait, similar to how i am dead against the occupation of palestine.

As a fact i was not insulted by the cartons, i was hurt by the message the cartons were trying to portray as i perceived of muslims. And another thing if a muslim commits a crime then he deserves what he gets. If a musilm is being oppressed or mashed up in anyway then obviously i would feel sorrow for him. I feel sorrow for all oppressed peoples.

Not really, but 'this' is not the whole of Islam.

Few deny that there are problems in these countries. But you seem to feel that people aren't reacting to this news as much as you think they should. What kind of reaction do you expect? How would your reaction improve the situation more than other people's?

In the end, the most lasting reforms are likely to be those that come from within.

Look Oliver, Jews and Christians are not wrong, as Jesus, Abraham, Moses (PBUT) and the other prophets are all muslims!!!

Please do not turn this into a debate on Christinaity VS islam as they will not work

We all worship the same God!

I can tell you this for a fact, when Jesus(PBUH) comes down to earth again to lead the armies of God against the anti christ, if you called him a follower of Judaism or christinaity he would not have a clue of what you are talking about, however if you said he followed Islam (submit to the Will of God) then he would go yes i am a muslim.

It was the nemies of the Jews who called them Judaism and the enemies of Christ the follows of jesus Christians, these were then adopted in to history

It has not been confirmed who is responsible, yet vincent has already started pointing blame. Obviously, right now it is anyone's guess who committed this dishonorable act. The victims were mainly Muslim students and five famous scholars of Pakistan. Why would a Muslim attack such a holy event and kill so many Muslim scholars?

Vincent, you probably don't know much about this event, however I personally knew some of the dead in this event, that is why I feel a personal attachment to this event.

We have our friends and scholars and students killed by some idiot, and even tho we dont have anything to do with it and instead are hurt by this event, we are blamed, how ridiculous is this?

    Peace.

No. you cant forbid all religions. you sat tere cant do it, and even if you had the power to that idea is just ignore-ant.
Rather it starts with each of u as individuals to see through the patriarchal mindset. Just that. Judeo-Christian-Islamic (JCI) and you can add in Eastern beliefs to like Buddhism, and Vedanta, and scientific materialism. all stemming from same patriarchal mindset. it HAS to begin with you, and me etc. doesn't mean doing so will be a magic wand and stop the killing and ecocide, but te alternative is just goiing along with the madness
