Elitism 101: When your elitist attitude is attacked, brand the individual demonstrating the arrogance of your attitude as 'incompetent'.

Elitism 202: When your elitist attitude is attacked, engage in shallow insults directed at your opponent's physical characteristics.

Elitism 303: Conclude by patronizing your opponent, because obviously he is inferior to you.

And what do you have a degree in, Gustav? Environmental science? Why are you on your computer? Won't your mother lend you her car keys? Or don't you have the money to pay for petrol?

Perhaps it's Gustvas time of the month, and he would rather sit in front of the computer and cry

What are you talking about? I'm sure your aware that to become a real lawyer, you need a real degree from law school to be able to practice law. Same in the medical (as you know), psychological, and scientific world, among many, many others. And although having a degree doesn't boost your IQ the moment you touch it, there's things you learn in acquiring the degree that are necessary for you to be able to be successfuly in your field of choice. Do you disagree?

The thing we need to remember about university educated minds which display arrogance of superiority is that they lack the ability of reasoning and common sense . That is down to the fact that their minds are from 18 years of educational institutionalization imprisoned , they have been taught everything rather than to think for themselves and arrive at a conclusion by reasoning . As the Nazi propaganda cheiftans said , " The easiest minds to braiinwash are the University educated " .

Mountain you have proven to me you are not in any shape or form a dupe , this post clearly demonstrates your ability to absorb your surroundings and make an analysis .

logic 101: when the incompetent denies incompetence, it only indicates further, and reinforces, intial accusation of incompetence

logic 101: explore all possibilities for origin of neuroses

logic 101: conclude with the only plausible explanation

Non-sequitur logic fallacy (it does not follow). Merely because denies a charge of incompetence, is not evidence that they incompetence. It seems that they don't teach you logic in your course. That's not surprising. The last time I checked the course guide for psychology, it seemed like New Age pseudo-science bullshit.

Provide evidence that I am incompetent, or admit that you are merely engaging in condescension, which (ironically) further supports my position.

Ahh, it all makes sense. You are aware that you merely further supporting the trends that I am pointing out?

Go back to telling others about their problems, while you obviously have problems of your own which you can't solve.

I'm curious how you expect humans to behave mountainhare?

You don't think the tremendous effort and that few people could do it even if they tried their asses off would lead to some elitist behavior?

Certainly it's truly shallow, but I want to know why you think it should be different, and if you think you could change it. If so, how?

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I have a degree in psychology, but I actually am God.

Degrees are very beneficial. There aren't too many other legit ways to make over $60k a year in your early 20's without a degree. You can bust out a degree in 2 years with some majors, even while working. Plus, pussy never comes easier than it does in college.

If you have a strong dislike for the college atmosphere you can always do something to change it. Go there, learn about it, find out why it is what it is, get a doctorate, then teach. Teach kids how to think and not what to think.

It happens; it sucks; try not to do it to others. One way is to avoid 'talking shop' in general.

U know, I would like to add that some people just are.

It's not like they don't want to. They are human too. You just gonna have to put up with them folks. Their reasons for being egotistical or freaks are just that simple. They're going to. They have every right.

That's my opinion, but I really think that there is a reason they are such ways. They are because they are afraid. They suffer and they don't know a better way to deal with the sufferance.

Allow me to tell you something, Mountainhare, that you might even find useful.

I spent more time in college than most folks because I was two different modes - first a student and then a teacher. And I generally simply say "teacher" when someone asks because to use my real title (professor) will often times provoke the same response in some people that you just displayed.

And I saw the exact same things that you described while in both modes - yes, they're certainly there!

But here's what I'm coming to: I learned early on as a student to use a very simple function so that it had almost no effect on me. Much the same function as is available here on these forums - ignore.

If an individual ever acted in the manner you described, I simply wrote that person off as a loss and had nothing more to do with them. It was as easy as that. There are still plenty of "regular" non-snobbish people to associate with and I had well over a dozen good friends to spend my free (little as it was) time with. Life is far too short to allow oneself to be placed in the cross-hairs of some dolt of a boor.

And I'll tell you what's REALLY funny!

I've no doubt that some few of them actually thought I was a part of their clan (the snob clan) because more than once I simply walked away without a word when they went into one of their self-important speeches. Just left them standing there.

    Who's being arrogant now?

    If he's a retard -- as per you --,
then he couldn't possibly understand the situation anyway.
Which makes you a retard, for expecting a retard to understand something.

That raises an interesting point. In some countries, raped women are expected to take their own lives due to 'honour'. Alternatively, a woman could attempt to bring her assailants to justice and carry on living her life as best she can.

Choice may not be able to undo the rape, but choice still exists, and can mean the difference between life and death.

    That would surprise me.

    MOUNTAINRABBIT

The above explains why med students are usually arrogant - the sheer intellectual iron required to master such dry, arcane stuff which in turn elevates you above your peers thus weeds out 99% of the unwashed. They truly are the cream of the cream. The next few % points comprise the remainder who couldin't cut it in the real sciences and gravitate toward the soft 'ologies' - Psychology, Sociology etc. And end up unemployed for 3 years post degree while med/law students go to black-tie balls and fuck the hot-pussy, money hungry hangers-on who frequent such gatherings.

They're arrogant because they ARE, in fact, superior. They've earned the right to be arrogant. Not all of them are, of course, within the profession you have, as with every other profession, a pecking order. The weak are often slapped down by the strong - it's just how it is.

    Deal with it.

And how exactly does memorizing a bunch of facts make you intelligent? I can teach a monkey to repeat a certain motion, or a parrot to repeat a particular phrase. That isn't a sign of intelligence, but of being to impress something in your memory.

It is far more difficult to understand, and to think creatively. Research scientists, and more so, arts people, are forced to do this in their chosen fields. Imaginativity, thinking outside the square, and giving the world new ideas and outlooks. Perhaps a composer is more intelligent than a doctor... I personally would find it harder to create, than to memorize a bunch of dry facts. Just sit in front of a book and write down what you want to remember, over and over again.

It doesn't. It makes you more knowledgeable. But you had to have a good level of intelligence in the first place to be able to memorise those facts.

....so? What does that have to do with the price of fish?

You've missed my point, but thaks for that aide-memoire. Not everyone is high up enough on the bell curve to memorise large quantities of abstract facts. Hand an article about the conversion of Tocopherol in the body to a housewife, wait 3 seconds for the expression on her face to change from interest to boredom, and watch her reach for her copy of "Celebrities Week".

Why do you think med/law students are rare compared to others? Not everyone has the sheer mental horsepower to become a succesful Lawyer, Doctor or Programmer in 5 years. The abstractness and quantity of the facts you need to assimilate is daunting, as opposed to the soft 'ologies', which are immediately applicable to the unwashed. These Malay must have something pretty hot about them to complete the courses successfully.

As for composers, here again a more extreme ratio of Pareto's Law is in force. The most successful of them are a LOT greater remuerated than the most successful Doctor/Scientist.
