View Full Version : open with menu python 09-14-06, 05:23 PM i accidentally added a program to the "open with" menu anyone know how to remove it ,thnks thedevilsreject 09-15-06, 12:07 PM have you tried going into the control panel and going to add/remove programmes RubiksMaster 09-15-06, 12:16 PM Does it now open when you double click the file? Or does it just show up when you select "open with" from the right-click menu, and get presented with a dialog box? If it's the latter, then you can't remove it. It automatically adds programs to this menu, based on what you've done in the past. It keeps them in the menu based on how many times you've opened that type of file with it. At least that what I think happens. If it automatically tries to open with that program, then go to (in a windows explorer window) tools, folder options, file types. Browse for the one that you added the association to, and click the button "opens with" and change it. python 09-15-06, 12:22 PM it just shows up with the right click menu, its not any bother i was just curious to see if i could remove it thanks for the info Stryder 09-15-06, 12:46 PM If you are running XP, type in the Start > Run box: Control Folders Once select the "File types" tab. Now this is where you'd have to be careful, but simply what you'd have to do is look for the particular file type that you set to "Open with" and just delete the entry from that file type (Don't try to delete the actual file extension though). Also this is where you can actually select the file extension like ZIP, Click "Advanced" and there is a tickbox for "Always show extension", this could be handy if you want to know if the extension you see is the real extension or not. RubiksMaster 09-16-06, 11:45 AM it just shows up with the right click menu, its not any bother i was just curious to see if i could remove it I'm sure there's a registry key somewhere that remembers the most recent "open with" for a particular file type. I wouldn't reccommend searching it out though, becuase you could do a lot more damage, and it's really no big deal, as you said. |
