As far as your average person is concerned, nothing. But we have some animal rights wackos around who probably think you're enslaving the dogs, or that it is somehow cruel for a greyhound (a dog clearly designed to run) to run around in a circle.

Basically, fuck 'em. Don't give those douchebags a second thought.

It might be considered cruel because of what happens to the dogs AFTER they've reached their peak years. They're basically bred to run, then euthanized.

I'm sure that's not always true. I know people who have a greyhound that used to be a racer. I'm not sure what percent of former racers are adopted, but many are.

They're adopted frequently because there are humanitarian (or dogatarian) organizations that try to adopt out as many of them as possible.

I am not sympathizing with any side, I am just trying to state why some people find it barbaric.

The only problem I see with it is that the dogs are incredibly ugly.

M*W: We have a greyhound racetrack near Houston, but there is also an adoptive plan where the dogs are put up for adoption following their careers. Many people here have greyhounds. They make wonderful pets.

The main problem is that when the greyhounds reach a certain age, I think 3 or 4, they are either adopted out or killed. Many people do not think that is a good "sport" to have around for it really doesn't give a damn about the dog but only what the dog does. Ever see how they live? They stay inside this small enclosure until they race , never taken for walks or given any human bonding or bonding with other greyhounds. They only time they see humans is to be fed and to be raced. Great way to treat mans best friend isn't it.

ok, i might as well mention this now before yall start bad talkin... i am a greyhound trainer. those pens you see there in that pic. thats from a humane society. the greyhounds are raced until the age of 6 *unless its a really good dog then they retire when they slow down past a grade D, grade A being the highest*. and the only way a greyhound is put down is if its seriously injured during the race, and injury that is so sever that it Will Be in-humane to let it live and suffer any longer. they have constant human contact, and i have yet to meet a trainer or helper that does not love these dogs. and steve... theyre not ugly, theyre just evolved to perfection on what theyre designed to do.

the republican warmongers race the dogs (when not cockfighting, assaulting the homeless and killing arabs)

the liberal angels save thru adoption (when not promoting peace and love throughout the whole wide world )

The bad talk probably comes from people like me, who saw the 60 min. or 20/20, or one of those types of shows where they showed the dogs being seriously abused.
There was never anything coming from the greyhound racing industry.
So we are stuck with 1 view and with nothing positive coming what are people we supposed to think?

me and some of my friends were discussing it last night, funnily enough. in the vernacular we agreed they're westie and a bit dodge, but in sciforums talk we associate it with low socioeconomic areas and problem gambling.
