Does anyone know the name of the effect that causes molecules in a lasing medium that has undergone a population inversion to absorb a photon and re-emit two photons in the same phase? For the life of me I can't remember it, and I don't have access to any of my books at the moment.

Yeah, but I thought that there was some other name for it. I believe it was related to the name of the guy who discovered the phenomenon. Something along the lines of 'the ______ effect.'

I've only ever heard it called stimulated emission.

LASER = Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.
