President Clinton gave a passionate speech for "peace" to the Palestinians in Gaza on December 14, saying "No matter how sharp a grievance or how deep a hurt, there is no justification for killing innocents." Just two days after that sermon, he began the most massive bombing campaign in human history. Tonight’s television news reported that more bombs and missiles have been hurled on Iraqi targets over the past three days than during the long-drawn the US and allies attacks in 1991.

    -------------------------------------------------------
The ideologically correct western media - yes, CNN was there again, this time represented by Christiane Amanpour - gave the world a blow-by-blow account of the "fireworks" display over Baghdad. Amanpour used expression such as "another exciting night for Iraq" to bemuse the jingoistic American public that went about its mad Christmas shopping scramble as the children of Iraq wondered whether the next bomb would fall on their heads.

The U.S. is even throwing around talk of using nuclear weapons against Iraq. New York Newsday reported on Feb. 1 that a top-secret directive--signed by Clinton last November--discusses the possible use of atomic bombs against Iraq and other "rogue states." According to Newsday, U.S. contingency plans include so-called "mini-nukes" designed to destroy underground bunkers made with reinforced concrete. They have less than one-tenth of the explosive power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. But they are as much as 500 times more powerful than the largest non-nuclear warheads--and emit dangerous radiation.

First the Clinton administration has shown that it will use violence on just about anyone it pleases under whatever circumstances it pleases. Clinton shows no inclination toward following the US Constitution's requirement that Wars be voted on by the Congress. Furthermore he has shown contempt for International law and the UN charter by flagrantly violating the treaty terms calling for Security Counsel's approval before interfering within the boundaries of another country.

Mr. Novak provides an example of the type of incidents Mr. Clinton used to justify the attack on Iraq. "On Dec. 9 weapons inspectors from UNSCOM, acting on a tip, showed up without notification at the Baghdad headquarters of the ruling Baath Party to search for ballistic missile components. The Iraqi escorts, citing a 1996 agreement, said only four inspectors could enter."

According to Rowan Scarborough of The Washington Times (Did White House orchestrate a crisis? Dec. 18), Scott Ritter, a former U.N. inspector, said Mr. Butler conferred with the Clinton administration's national security staff on how to write his report of noncompliance before submitting it to the U.N. Security Council. The former inspector said the White House wanted to ensure the report contained sufficiently tough language on which to justify its decision to bomb Iraq. "I'm telling you this was a preordained conclusion. This inspection was a total setup by the United States," said Ritter.
