aye i agree, and i was shoked too when i visited teh BC Files (i'm regular there because i still play the heavily moded Bridge Commander) and read the results of their pools: how did you like the new trek movie? and do you like the new Enterprise (ship). more then 75% of when i considered to be "hardliners" or "hard core" fans of the franchise voted positive!!!! i mean, wtf?! are people so much hungry for a new ST movie that they'd swallow everything that is given to them?

      Hi :)

You make exactly the 4th person (and 3rd Trek fan) outside of myself to realise that the new Trek movie felt dumbed-down. Which is kinda disappointing, 'cause I expected more Trek fans to go "WTF". Three other fans hyped me up for the movie only for me to fall like Spock's mommy did!

Yesterday, I heard an ad for the movie that I hadn't before..."Star Trek is the Star Wars of this generation". I almost vomited, because it's exactly what I said, except with a frog in my throat instead of excitement.

I understand that they used this approach to gain new fandom, but ugh...it felt like SW: visually appealing, trigger happy. Such a pity that it's lost the essence. (but yeah, we disagree on the point that SW is higher quality than the new Trek...it isn't lol)
