Between the purges and the political prisoners in the gulags (and by no means were all the prisoners political prisoners; nor were all the "political prisoners" innocent), I'd place the number at less than 1 million for sure. The same dishonest tactics are used against Mao, with the "he killed 50 million people" rubbish. In fact, the only time he even remotely authorized killings was in the peasant trials for Chinese landlords, under which 800,000 landlords were executed. But that was carried out by the peasants and was an expression of their anger. The "50 million" count comes from famines and other similar causes. Until the smear campaign by the US, Mao Tse Tsung was, and still is in most of the world, looked upon favorably as a liberator.

      Hiya RedStar...
I can't say I agree with all you say, well, because I don't. BUT, I feel you have the right to your opinions.

So, I'm glad your ban was lifted.

I do enjoy reading your posts, they are thoughtfull, and passionate.

Again, I don't always agree with what you say, But I will fight to the death for your right to express your beliefs.

I wish you all the best...

So, in closing, I hope you stick around. Don't let ANYONE chase you off.

So, because something was posted on YouTube, I'm supposed to care? Look. You're a communist. I'm okay with that. I have communist friends in Spain. I don't have a problem with it. It's your, personal apologetic attitude towards tyrants and your lack of absolute commitment to human dignity and freedom that I find really appalling.

Yes, I've read that book actually. It's encouraging. But it also makes me apprehensive; I'm divided in opinion regarding all this advanced technology. It may be a romantic notion, but I think there's something that we'll lose in such a great leap forward.

About humans: they are selfish and greedy, to some extent, but those qualities are also impacted by the material conditions. When we are raised in a society built on selfishness and greed, and when we consider those qualities to be virtues, they will be enhanced. Greed may be a part of "human nature" but so is co-operation and sharing.

The only hope for us, then, is larger brains and greater evolution. We're almost there. IF you and I live to see 2075 (my hundredth birth day), I'm certain we'll be having these conversations in some sort of VR.
Have you ever read "The Singularity is Near". If not, this link gives you a good clue as to where Kurzweil thinks we'll be. He's been right on the money for 30 years. That's a good score! Take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predictions_made_by_Ray_Kurzweil

Interesting. I don't think it demonstrates that humans aren't by their nature, selfish and in need of reward. Humans are programmed by evolution to need to accumulate things and power. That need will have to be tempered while giving humans "something else" that leave us, essentially intelligent beings, but driven more to accumulate knowledge while still having a passionate desire to "deliver results" and "work for a better society" while also simultaneously not turning us into a hive and preserving that sense of individuality. It's dangerous times, but my opinion is that it's even more dangerous not to, especially once we will have technology in our hands that give each person the ability to cause irreparable harm to all of society. We have to find a way that doesn't take away that power (that's called tyranny) but gives each person a sense of importance, place, community and wisdom that they'd never chose to use it.
