I try to load a friend's Flash site, but all I get is a quicktime thing. What's wrong? How do I fix it?

Perhaps you've accidentally set Quicktime to attempt to run .swf files. What you might be able to do is install the newest version of the Flash runtime and hopefully it will fix your links, otherwise you've got to do some something a little more advanced.

    You should either try:
for FLASH runtime or for Shockwave

Looks like I've got to s osomethign a little more advanced, as I installed Shockwave and the link still wouldn't work. Would this be something that needs a reboot?

Why don't you uninstall Quicktime and hope that it goes for Flash as an alternative?

Will flash play .mov files? I've been looking at getting rid of it, as it's only used every once in a while. My camera can do video, but in .mov format. I'll try that though, see what I get.

I know Shockwave does if the .mov files are built into the presentation

QT plays both movies and Flash.

However, I think you need Flash eitherway for QT to be able to operate flash files.

It's a quicktime logo thing, with a piece seperated by a tear.

A torn icon means that a source can not be found; Quicktime doesn't "see" what it's suppose to see.

Stryderunknown is correct: your browser is set to launch Quicktime (as a Helper Application) when it sees .swf files because browsers use plugins to view special files such as flash animations -- evidently your Flash plugin is missing and Quicktime is set to activate when blah blah blah.

You must install Macromedia's Flash Player 7:

    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

After launching the installer (I've forgotten how you install on a PC -- I understand there might be some round-a-bout way?), the plugin should be available, but you will probably have to visit your browser's preferences (unless it's done automatically as in Mac OS X) and un-check Quicktime as the Helper Application for Flash and choose Macromedia's Flash Player instead.

It will be automatically set to Flash when you install. Remember to close all browser windows first, although the installer automatically does this WITHOUT EVEN WARNING!!!
