Sure. But it's based on limited knowledge, so you're falling in love with less than the complete person. You have to keep your eyes open and take danger signs seriously. Not all loves are destined to be good for you or long-lasting.

    No, it can't.

    Infatuation at first sight can.
Love, however, is based on mutual respect, admiration, adoration, honor...
None of these things come about upon first sight.

I would call it infatuation more than love. when someone only sees another person without any knowledge about them then they are acting on looks and appearance more than knowing anything about the other person. So I don't think it could actually be love at first site at all. After all one does need to know something about who they are infatuated with before falling in love with them.

As long as it results in sex within the first twenty-four hours. Anything longer is like at first sight.

    I concur.

From a psychological viewpoint I think people like to convince themselves of the existence of love at first sight; occurring on the basis that they find someone attractive at first and as they slowly get to know them and fall in love they convince themselves they loved them from the moment they saw them - Forgetting completely that had they opened with the line "get your tits out", they wouldn't even be contemplating the concept of love, let alone at first sight.

I always thought "love at first sight" suggested destiny. I'm not going to say it's impossible, but its never happened to me. I've never had anything at first sight.

I always thought that was sugar-coated, pseudo-romantic nonsense pepetuated by the likes of poets and Disney and served to disregard and diminsh what love really is.

A real love story is no where near as romantic as a romance novel. Love at first sight makes for better stories, than "we sort of liked each other and went out a few times"

That would explain why people convince themselves of its existence and that it can happen/has happened to them.
Thanks that was the only part of the puzzle I didn't understand.

How can you love someone you don't even know? You can be attracted to someone, but that is usually cured when they open their mouths to speak.

I find real love much more romantic than the ridiculous nonsense in romance novels and Disney movies.

Love is something that has to be tested.

Maybe it's because I'm not a romantic person, I hate romance in general, but I love a good Disney movie. Real romance stories can be just as vomit- worthy as novels.

Course it can. Some of the inured members on this forum, as already announced, would view love as a journey and an affection to be earned as opposed to just being beheld.

The Greeks have a number of levsl of love:- eros, philia, and agape. I think the look of love or at first sight is physical and not just sexual, but involving the coloured aura of a person. That mixed with the way they walk, talk, hold themselves in public, laugh and show pity; they are the first alluring qualities. Heaven forbid we should all go down the boy meets girl and he fumbles his words, girl sighs and finally relents and goes on a date and then again and again and now we're finally feeling something; seems too mechanical for me.

Yeah, I believe at love in first sight, just not the deep and meaningful type (agape) until its mature, but its still a love level, albeit close to infatuation... I grant you......
