Wisdom comes from remembering what you have done in the past so that you won't do the wrong things again.
true but barry was thinking more about the ability for us to actually have wisdom , individually watch the video again
He is saying that wisdom is transmitted through exemplars of virtue. He referred several times to Barack Obama's remarks that appeal to virtue. He gave numerous examples of people who "broke the rules" to do what is right. What is interesting to me is how all the ideas he discusses spring from a liberal position, and yet the Conservatives seem to enjoy a large hold in the religious sector. This is precisely why it made no sense to ridicule Barack Obama. From the outset, when they were portraying him as a Muslim imam, or a friend of the Weather Underground, or of the angry preacher Jeremiah Wright, they were intentionally burying the fact that he had reached out to do service in his neighborhood, where he had helped a community empower itself to enforce housing laws and to reclaim the streets. The story did not demonstrate political prowess, but merely virtue. Thus it was the express goal of the Republican Party to deny the public this "exemplar of virtue". For this reason I can never trust them to do the right thing. As far as I am concerned, the Republicans are morally bankrupt. For that matter, any person or institution that deliberately buries any exemplar of virtue, is morally bankrupt. The ones that come to my mind are FOX and the AM jawbones Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, et al. Although it manifests itself as politics, or sometimes it is more honestly referred to as a culture war, I believe in the long run our present split is better cast in Barry Schwartz's question: what has happened to our exemplars of virtue?
Yes his exact statement was that people need to know when to break the rules in order to do what they know, by wisdom, is right. And that wisdom makes them exemplars of virtue. I fully agree.
also Barry got into Character to finish the talk which I thought was excellent the whole talk by Barry was excellent which was why I brought up his talk in the first
