    everybody
I joined this forum about a week ago, and I must admit, we have had some great, intelligent and interesting discussions ever since. Some discussions I could never have in real life (sucks being a 10th grader).
So a big "thanks" goes to all people here for sharing their knowledge and perspectives.

    See ya around

Hey Eddy, how the heck are you? 36 posts in one week is pretty good. Have fun and don't let anyone hurt your feelings...like I do. You'll soon find out who you should avoid.

    Cheers!
    Padma

Welcome aboard, glad to have another opinion here.To bad they couldn't teach high school over the net instead of having to go to school. At least you wouldn't worry about being "bullied" or other lame things happening while at regular school. You could learn at your own pace without holding up others either slower or faster than you.

I have often thought that I could learn more than 3x as much if I spend a schoolday at the library reading stuff in books and on the net than if i was in school.

I guess I'm just one of the those weird people that enjoys learning if it's something interesting- like science.

well my high school is actually pretty good, nice people, smart teachers, little or no violence or bullying as far as I know. Basically everything is cool except that it appears to me that none of my peers are interested in science. I can argue about controversial issues with my friends for only a short period of time before they turn off their brains and become biased.

Your lucky. There are a few smart teachers and even fewer students with any reasonable level of intelligence at my school. And it's supposed to be a science and technology magnet school!

    oh really? that's interesting.
My school is never known for their science performance. In fact, there are only about 100 projects exhibiting at the county science fair each year.
Sports and arts (including music) are probably the only popular things in my school.

Our school doesn't even have a science fair. I wish it would. I have alot of good ideas.

oh no it's not a school science fair, it's like a science fair for the whole county, and only about 100 projects show up... pathetic...
yep science fairs are pretty cool, I have been going there and doing projects for 2 or 3 years. I love them!

Yeah, even county wide I'm pretty sure there's not anything like that. So what kind of projects do you come up with. (just curious).

I have been doing projects in the field of biology since the first time I went there. First year, I did about bacterial growth in different environments; second year I did how the growth of bean plants change in different conditions; and for this year's county science fair which took place just 2 months ago, I did a project on testing different concentrations of pesticides on fruit flies (drosophila melanogaster). It was really hard, it took me nearly a year to get it done. I got first place in my division, but was not selected to go to the Canada-wide science fair, dammit! Going to the national science fair is on my to-do list,

and I want to achieve that next year (2005 science fair), it is like the best thing a young scientist can ask for, competing with 500 other brilliant minds for a week, and seeing great projects and people... haha

    , it's pretty good
What should I do for my next project, I am thinking physics, but I still like to do something about bio

Hmm, I've got to think about that a bit. I tend to gravitate towards physics, but you want to integrate physics and biology, right? Congradulations on your first place in division though!

    thanks
it can be just physics too
I was thinking about the relationship between antioxidants and free radicals in an organism, I was thinking how I could cause some kind of observable mutation in the organism, and try to reverse that using antioxidants like Vitamin C and E
free radicals are a main cause for mutations and can be caused by anything from radiation to chemicals.
Of course, I can also do an experiment jsut to test the effect of antioxidants... I am still thinking

Cool idea! I would be interested in hearing about the details of what you come up with. Good luck with it!
