Not sure where to post this, but i figured science has the answers to my question......:confused:

what is an itch, what causes it (inside the body, not outside irritants) and why does it seem to spread. You know what I mean.....you have one little itch, so you scratch it, and then your whole dang body itches.

Did that make any sense??? please help!!!

Hives? Perhaps it comes from nerves. Most itches are the result of outside irritants. Insect bites would be localized, though. I would have to say that any itch not imminating from an outside source would be due to a nervous feeling.

Not sure why itches spread, but I seem to remember reading that an itch is essentially a low level pain.
Maybe you don't notice the lesser itches until the one youre concentrating on stops when you scratch it.
