i dont understand why airport security has to search everyone, why dont they just search arabs-their the ones that blew up manhatten. if your arab or your name is lacking any vowels then get in this line. if a white guy robs a bank the cops dont go looking for a black guy.. because he dosent fit the description! arabs fit the terrorist description! why bother the rest of us? Goofyfish, Follow the logic with me. -We know that in the past, more arabs have hijacked American planes than any other group of people. -The situation since it's beginnings (hijackings) has pretty much stayed the same, with a few minor changes...... -future event's are concurrent with similar situations in the past. -We can therefore conclude that, if history has taught us anything, arabic people are more likely to hijjack than other groups under these present conditions. Get it? I haven't judged, or in other words made a baseless assumption on any group of people. Simply a logical observation on how things are LIKELY to shape up. IMHO, I think you're one of those people that would rather be ignorant than accept the painful truth. IE History has taught us that you just don't attack the russians during fall. Lemme tell you a little story about something that happened in Canada. During the 80's, Homosexuals were allowed to give blood without being tested for HIV. People thought that screening them for HIV would be "racist" or whatever you like to call it. This happened ofcoarse around the time when Gays where first coming out of the closet. It's a fact, that Homosexuals are/were much more likely to have HIV - even without their own knowledge - than any other group, especially during the 80's. Anyways, the blood supply was contaminated. Many people fell ill and died because of such an approach. Now people are asking why it was so bad to screen EVERYBODY. To me, these spineless blood clinics were the real racists, and they killed people in the process? So Goofy, let's be AWARE as well as tolerant. Peoples' lives are at stake.

I think racial profiling can be a benifit in some cases. This may be one of them. But think of the people that was arrested in connection with the 9/11 attacks. They were Americans - non Arab Americans at that, that made these attacks a little more easier to carry through. (The DMV chick for one). Anyhoo, like Desert said, look at John Walker. And if you think about it, if we were profiling, the psychos would probably go down to dirt poor Africa and offer a person 1 million for his family if he carries out an attack on America. Its not too far fetched...
Screeners should obviously give more scrutiny to Arab passengers because the vast majority of hijackers are Arab. But has everyone forgotten about Tim McVeigh, he didn't fit the description of a terrorist. There are many militias in America's own backyard capable and willing to start trouble, they shouldn't be overlooked. The Anthrax attacks look like they probably came from the US, whose to say some nut doesn't bring this stuff on a plane? What's to stop a uni-bomber type from bringing something on a plane with the sole intention of causing chaos in the country. Also, what's to stop an Arab terrorist from dating a non-Arab citizen and then planting something in his/her suitcase without them knowing. Does anybody remember all those case of "Air Rage" that were going on before 911, those people didn't fit a description either... It wouldn't be smart to only focus on Arab passengers.
I dont think its wrong to be able to tell the difference between ethnic groups as long as you do so for the good of society, do not actively persecute a group without due and just and reasonable cause, etc. I think you sould look at race the same way as you would look as someone being left or right handed. If the man was stabbed by a knife held in the left hand you generally look for a left handed man. In the same way nearly all of the Taliban terrorists are adult Islamic Arab men so thats who you primarally look for. Little old catholic polish women are usually not Taliban, i would assume.

Here's a question for you If a white, middle class American male hijacked a plane, would they just concerntrate their searches on that type of person? The thing is, not everyone is a hijacker and no-one knows who the next hijacker is going to be, it could be little old catholic Polish women or it might be someone from the Orient. So the safest bet is to check everyone. And I mean everyone, no exceptions.

If we make it harder for Arabs to get through airports, then they'll start sending white Englishmen instead. They have access to those types of people, converts from everywhere. If it means they can kill Americans, they'll tell the converts to ditch the beards and the turbans, act like idiots, and go to the airport with whatever they plan on using to destroy whatever. And then there are the 1m+ Muslim Chinese: anybody can be a Muslim extremist. Heck, for all we know, that 87-year-old Polish Catholic nun could be the Qaeda's latest attempt to hijack a plane and keep investigators off the trail. Most people would have a hard time believing a woman older than their grandma was a terrorist, and that's what the Qaeda wants.
first of all, arabic terrorists are not the only wrong do-ers in this world. there is more to search for than a guy with a beard and a bomb.
